Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther Character Guide (Moves, Tips, & Strategies)

Black Panther is finally a playable character in the Marvel's Avengers: War for Wakanda expansion. While Kate Bishop and Hawkeye had their own set of story missions and unique gameplay added to Marvel's Avengers post-launch, the War for Wakanda expansion adds entirely new locations, stories, and villains to defeat.

In War for Wakanda, Klaue has found his way deep into Wakanda to steal its valuable Vibranium material for his own purposes. This causes Black Panther, voiced by God of War actor Christopher Judge, to call on the Avengers to help defend his home. Here's how players can unlock Black Panther as a playable character in Marvel's Avengers.

One of the biggest changes to come with the War for Wakanda expansion is the ability to run duplicate heroes on a single team in Marvel's Avengers. If players prefer, they can run an entire team of Black Widows, Hulks, and Thors. It's even possible to play as an entire set of Black Panthers. Fans can also play as Black Panther outside the War for Wakanda expansion. This means players can go back and complete previous missions as the King of Wakanda.

In order to unlock Black Panther as a playable character in Marvel's Avengers, the player will need to begin the new War for Wakanda missions. Players will be able to unlock him after completing the first mission in the storyline. This introduction mission is short and allows players to try out their move set within the new context of Wakanda.

The mission opens up after a brief cutscene describing how Wakanda locked itself away with the leadership of Black Panther after the death of Captain America during the base game. Now, with Klaue attempting to break into Wakanda to enact a dangerous plot against the Golden City, Birnin Zana, Black Panther is the only thing standing between him and ultimate power.

The first introduction mission is single-player only, so players will need to complete it before jumping into the rest of the expansion's content with friends. Fortunately, the mission itself is fairly short and shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes to complete.

While each character in Marvel's Avengers fundamentally plays the same with light and heavy attacks, Black Panther does include his own unique abilities. He functions much more efficiently in close-ranged battles but does have a projectile attack with his Vibranium Daggers. Aiming one of these at an enemy's head can do a ton of damage. He can also cling to and run on walls, then jump off to dive on enemies, which can be especially interesting during boss battles with characters like Crossbones.

The neat part of it all is that the War for Wakanda expansion can be played without experiencing the other expansions beforehand. Players can jump right in after installing the update. More expansions are apparently planned for the future, and a Marvel's Avengers voice line hints Loki may be the next character coming soon.
