Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum Kanye West has taken to social media to express his disappointment with the Donda album release. After releasing his highly-anticipated Donda album on Sunday, the rapper and fashion mogul shared a post on Instagram blasting his record label, Universal Music Group, for allegedly dropping the album without his full consent. Kanye's announcement came as his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and the KUWTK family supported his release by sharing posts about the new project on Instagram. Alas, despite all the promo, Kanye apparently isn't happy with the album rollout.
After hosting three listening parties, Kanye finally released his Donda album to the approval of hip hop fans. The album features 27 songs and comes jam-packed with A-list collaborations. In addition to rekindling his friendship with Jay Z, other features include Lil Baby, Lil Durk, The Lox, and even a Lauryn Hill sample, among many other appearances. The album comes as Kanye is locked in a rap feud with Drake over the number one spot on Billboard. It's said that Kanye is hoping to surpass Drake ahead of what's believed to be the upcoming release of his album, Certified Lover Boy. With Kanye aiming for that top spot, it looks like he's pointing fingers amid the album's release.
Shortly after the album was released on Sunday, Kanye shared a message on Instagram blasting his record label, Universal Music Group. "Universal put my album out without my approval and they blocked Jail 2 from being on the album," Kanye shared in a post (included below). Ye's post reflected his upset at how the album was released, as well as the absence of a song that featured rapper DaBaby. Earlier in the day, Kanye posted and deleted text messages with DaBaby where he told the "Suge" rapper that his label was blocking the song from being included on the album. The posts showed the unorganized nature of Kanye's last-minute release.
The album was originally slated for release in July 2021 but got pushed back a few weeks so Kanye could rework the songs, add new features, and throw more listening parties for his fans. Now, in true Kanye form, he's on social media blasting who he feels is to blame for the rollout not going according to plan. Ye's supporters have been waiting for the album since he started teasing it last month. With Kanye's current rap beef with Drake, the success of Donda could show Kanye's reign over the Toronto chart-topper. Drake is expected to be releasing his album on Friday, September 3.
If Drake does release Certified Lover Boy on Friday, Kanye and Drake will be going head-to-head for the top spot on Billboard. While Kanye has a strong fanbase, Drake's listenership could prove to be stronger than the Yeezy founder. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians family used their Instagram Stories to promote a series of songs off the new album. However, Kanye is apparently still not happy with how his latest album was released over the weekend. Hopefully, it can still push him to the top of the charts.
