Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Standalone Launch, New Rivals Mode Announced

Ghost Of Tsushima's Legends multiplayer mode is getting a standalone release later this month, along with a new Rivals mode. Developer Sucker Punch launched Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends last October, a good few months after its single-player counterpart hit stores to near-universal acclaim.

Centered more around the supernatural than the main Ghost Of Tsushima campaign, Legends allows two co-op players to journey through a standalone story or four players to engage in Survival missions against waves of enemies. While there were a few problematic bugs and glitches at launch, Sucker Punch quickly fixed them and added a few additional story missions and alternate costumes based on other famous PlayStation franchises. Even a year after Ghost Of Tsushima: Legend’s release, players are still queuing up to hold special commemorative events in-game.

In a new blog post, the PlayStation Blog has announced that Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends is getting a standalone release on August 20. Just like the original Legends, this standalone version will come free of charge to PS4 and PS5 owners, who won't have to purchase the upcoming Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut to access it. All progression made in Legends will transfer over to the new version as well. Furthermore, Sucker Punch is adding a new mode called Rivals, in which two teams of two will compete against each other while battling an army of enemies. This is coming to Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends on September 3rd. A trailer was posted on PlayStation's YouTube channel.

The standalone version of Legends isn’t the only new Ghost Of Tsushima content coming later this month, as the aforementioned Director’s Cut is also set to launch on August 20. This new version not only brings last year's hit to the new PS5 but also adds a brand-new campaign set on Japan's Iki Island. In this new story, Jin Sakai finds himself face-to-face with a dangerous Mongolian cult as he makes use of a brand-new fighting stance across roughly 15 to 20 hours of gameplay and improved technical features.

Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends is plenty of fun on its own, so the idea of getting it as a standalone feature is intriguing for fans who have already thrilled to the gripping samurai swordplay and stealth of Sucker Punch’s instant PS4 classic. Players will be able to jump into the standalone version of Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends when it launches on August 20, as well as add to the action with the new Rivals mode on September 3.
