HBO Max’s FBoy Island has just premiered and it’s already become one of the most talked-about dating shows streaming this summer. The new show is a hit with fans who can’t get enough of the already-palpable drama that is bubbling up among the contestants. Many fans are wondering about the tropical paradise that serves as the backdrop for the romance and scheming, as well as when this first season was filmed. The location producers selected is the perfect place for love and backstabbing, and viewers will be pleased to know that safety was a primary concern.
On FBoy Island, not all is as it seems, and the show’s cast of three single women - Sarah, CJ, and Nakia - must navigate treacherous waters if they want to find love. The women are introduced to 24 single men comprised of 12 self-professed nice guys and 12 admitted "fboys." Throughout the show, the women select men to go on dates with. At the end of each episode, three eliminations are made. It is only after the men are eliminated that they reveal whether they are a nice guy looking for love or a player who’s only there for prize money.
FBoy Island was developed by former Bachelor Nation producer Elan Gale, who revealed the show’s filming schedule in an interview with THR. The showrunner explained that season 1 was filmed between March and April 2021, so the COVID-19 pandemic was still a major concern for the production team to guarantee the safety of these contestants. “Everyone was flown out two weeks in advance for a full 14-day quarantine with testing every other day,” Gale commented. “We were lucky enough to be welcomed by beautiful islands and really wonderful people, and the most important thing for us is that we didn’t do anything that would endanger anyone.”
Even though the cast and crew were kept in a strict quarantine bubble for the duration of filming, they couldn’t ask for a better spot to be sequestered. Season 1 was filmed in the Cayman Islands - specifically the island of Grand Cayman (via Cinemaholic). The Cayman Islands are world-renowned tropical tourism spots, and as the largest of the islands, Grand Cayman is the most heavily populated by tourists and locals as well. The island was chosen not just for its natural beauty, but also for its low number of COVID-19 cases, which added to the appeal of the location.
FBoy Island has barely debuted and already the new HBO Max dating show has created a buzz among viewers who can’t get enough of the tropical-flavored drama. It’s only the first season, so it’s anyone’s guess how the rest of the show will turn out, but rest assured there will be fans eager to find out. It’s no surprise that the show’s enviable tropical backdrop is a hit with viewers, and it seems that Grand Cayman was the perfect place to set summer’s hottest new dating show concept.
