Batman Goes Rabid in New Comic Preview | Screen Rant

Potential spoilers ahead for Detective Comics #1042!

In a special preview for Detective Comics #1042, Batman is driven rabid with anger and is about to be unleashed on Gotham City. The Dark Knight, under the influence of the disgusting new villain Vile, has been transformed into a vicious killer. The issue is on sale in print and digital August 24.

In recent issues of Detective Comics, a new threat by the name of Vile is stalking the streets of Gotham. Using a special parasite, Vile can infect his victims and enslave them, gaining access to their memories in the process. While investigating one of Vile’s previous victims, the Huntress is infected; she manages to purge herself of the parasite but retained a psychic connection to Vile. Meanwhile, Batman himself has become infected, all while staying one step ahead of Mister Worth, a wealthy Gotham citizen who blames Batman for the death of his daughter. Worth has joined forces with the Penguin, and the two have captured Vile and the infected Batman, but Worth and the Penguin are about to discover they have more than they can handle. The issue is written by Mariko Tamaki, with art by Viktor Bogdanovic, inks by Bogdanovic and Daniel Henriques, colors by Jordie Bellaire and letters by Aditya Bidikar.

As the preview opens, Batman is struggling to keep Vile’s parasite from taking control; meanwhile, Worth and Penguin’s men are closing in on him. While Batman fights off Vile’s influence, Vile himself is being kept in another room, tied to a bed. However, he manages to break free and infect the guards. Now zombies themselves, the guards storm Penguin and Worth’s facility, just as Vile takes full control of Batman. Before they do, the Penguin makes a comment about Batman being “rabid.

The preview ends there, and readers must wait until August 24 to see how Batman frees himself from Vile’s clutches, and defeat Penguin and Mister Worth. For right now, however, Batman is very much in Vile’s thrall, and like all of Vile’s other victims, the Dark Knight is a zombie with nothing on his mind but murder and destruction—the word “rabid” is the perfect way to describe it. Vile’s powers also give him access to the victim’s mind, and Vile having access to Batman’s vast knowledge of fighting styles is a scary thought indeed, as it would make Vile unstoppable.

When readers last saw the Huntress, she still possessed a psychic link to Vile, and was able to track his movements. She will obviously play some role in freeing Batman, probably thanks to her connection to Vile. Will Batman have the same residual effects the Huntress did? Or will ending Vile once and for all finally free his victims?
