A talented The Legend of Zelda fan and Planet Coaster builder has created a roller coaster ride based on a range of games from the series. Planet Coaster allows gamers to create the ultimate theme park, packed with attractions, rides, and more. The Frontier Developments game is a spiritual successor to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, offering a modern take on the classic series.
Planet Coaster is one of many management sims from Frontier. The company originally worked on the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, as well as Zoo Tycoon and the more recent zoo management game, Planet Zoo. Planet Coaster originally released as a PC-only game in 2016, before Planet Coaster: Console Edition later launched for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by a PS5 version in 2020. Planet Coaster: Console Edition is available via Xbox Game Pass, and is optimized for the Series X/S.
The Legend of Zelda might be a fantasy series, but it adapts surprisingly well to a roller coaster experience. Created by YouTuber AttackingTucans and spotted by Zelda Dungeon, the Planet Coaster creation is named "Thrill of the Wild". Despite sharing a similar name to Breath of the Wild, the coaster is actually inspired by many Zelda games, including Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild, Minish Cap, and A Link to the Past. As well as showing off the coaster in action, AttackingTucans also has a mini-series showing off the building process, should any Planet Coaster fans want to recreate the build themselves.
The final product shows off a number of Zelda-inspired thrills for its virtual customers, including dungeons and even Hyrule Castle. The video is narrated by YouTuber Lucahjin, who guides the coaster riders through each phase of the build, making it a wholly interactive experience for those on board. The story she provides focuses around a monster who has emerged from the depths to destroy Kakariko Village, and Link's quest underground to destroy it. The ride is part of a bigger project, entitled The Toucan Kingdom, also known as the Ultimate Theme Park. Those wanting to keep on top of the park's updates can follow the creator's progress on YouTube.
The Planet Coaster creation wouldn't look out of place in the recently-opened Super Nintendo World theme park, located at Universal Studios Japan. The theme park has had some struggles due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the doors to Super Nintendo World are now open. While many Nintendo fans might still have trouble traveling to Japan, a similar Nintendo theme park is expected to open at Orlando Studios Florida in the coming years, with an estimated completion date of 2025.
The Japanese theme park has yet to dabble in any other Nintendo IPs, instead focusing on the Super Mario franchise. As well as serving up delicious Mushroom Kingdom-themed treats for its lucky patrons, the park also offers rides including a Mario Kart-inspired roller coaster. There's plenty of room for Zelda, Kirby and other franchises to make appearances at the theme park in the future, though Nintendo hasn't suggested this is planned. For now, fans might just have to make do with this Zelda-inspired Planet Coaster roller coaster.
