Just one month after its release in theaters, F9 is available to stream online on a variety of platforms. F9 puts Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) love for family to the test, pitting Dom against his long-lost brother Jakob Toretto (John Cena). Though Jakob hasn't been mentioned in The Fast Saga before, he apparently followed his older brother's example and became an international spy. Jakob's mission is to hold the world's weapons hostage, and Dom and his crew of car-loving action heroes are the only ones who stand in his way. Justin Lin directs the film, which brings back Fast and Furious mainstays, such as Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez.
Besides stunts that defy both gravity and logic, F9 also includes several exciting returns for The Fast Saga. Han (Sung Kang) finally returns from the dead, making a surprising appearance in the franchise. He wasn't killed by Shaw (Jason Statham) after all, and there's even a scene that hints at Han getting the justice he deserves. Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, also receives a touching tribute, with a surprise scene including a shot of his iconic blue car. Additionally, the crew from Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift returns to help Ludacris fly a car into outer space. Even Coronas are back after a strange absence in The Fate of the Furious.
There are a variety of ways to stream F9 online. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the movie industry, including affecting the latest installment in The Fast Saga. The film initially wrapped production in 2019 and was scheduled to release in 2020. However, F9 was subsequently delayed numerous times due to the pandemic, finally releasing in the United States on June 25, 2021. Now, around a month after its initial release, F9 is available for video-on-demand (VOD) and streaming rentals.
F9 officially hit VOD services on July 30. The film is available for rent for around $20 across platforms, with viewing options ranging from standard definition to 4K. Once a movie is rented and watched on VOD, it can generally be accessed for 48 hours, though different services may vary. Streaming rental options include Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, FandangoNow, YouTube, Microsoft Movies, Apple TV, and Google Play Store.
In addition to renting, F9 will eventually be available on streaming platforms, though it may take a while. Historically, it's taken months for The Fast Saga to arrive on streaming platforms. For instance, Fate of the Furious and its raining cars arrived on HBO's streaming services around nine months after its initial release date. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has adjusted many release schedules, so the actual release date is TBD. As a Universal release, F9 will likely make its way to Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, or HBO Max, given Universal's current deal with HBO, at some point in the future.
