Titans Season 3 Trailer Reveals Jason Todd’s Death Makes Batman Retire

HBO Max unveils the first full trailer for season 3 of the DC Comics series Titans, offering a glimpse of Scarecrow, Barbara Gordon, and Red Hood. Based on the superhero team of the same name, the former DC Universe series was created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti, with executive producer Greg Walker serving as showrunner. The lead cast for the series includes Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Conor Leslie, Curran Walters, Joshua Orpin, Alan Ritchson, and Minka Kelly.

Following the jaw-dropping season 2 finale seeing the arrival of Damaris Lewis' Blackfire, season 3 will see the titular group drawn to Gotham City due to a series of mysterious circumstances. While there, the group will be forced to confront their past, new threats, and reunite with old friends. In addition to Lewis, the cast for the next chapter in the series will see the addition of newcomers Savanna Welch as Barbara Gordon and Vincent Kartheiser as Dr. Jonathan Crane, better known as Scarecrow.

With the cliffhanger ending of season 2 and the expanded character roster for season 3, there have been a lot of theories and questions about what fans can expect going into the next chapter of Titans. One of the biggest point of excitement confirmed with the first teaser trailer for season 3 is the shift in location from the real city of San Francisco to the iconic DC Comics area of Gotham City as Thwaites' Dick Grayson dons the mantle of Nightwing and returns to his hometown for crime fighting. Even more intriguing is the trailer's exploration of the adaptation of the iconic "Death in the Family" storyline.

Though briefly referenced in the DC Extended Universe's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League, the Jim Starlin's heartbreaking narrative has yet to see a properly live-action adaptation. While Titans may not be taking a one-to-one approach in bringing the story to life, the series' grittier nature and decision to explore much of Grayson's traumatic past with Batman in flashbacks and exposition rather than starting from the beginning does make it one of the better vehicles to bring the story to life. As the series is slated to return in a month, the wait to see how it all shakes out is nearly over.
