Schitt's Creek: 10 Best Johnny Rose Episodes | ScreenRant

Schitt's Creek is one of the best contemporary sitcoms; while the show has many things going for it, one of the best things about Schitt's Creek is the zany and loveable Rose family which is lead by patriarch Johnny Rose, played by the legendary Eugene Levy.

While Johnny is definitely Levy's most memorable role of recent years, it's also extremely special to him because he got to create the role alongside his son, who plays David in the series. Working with his family gave Levy a lot of room to push the boundaries with his character, and it also helped that he has a long working relationship with Catherine O'Hara who plays Moira. With such a welcoming community, Levy was able to give audiences an amazing, heartfelt, and downright hilarious portrayal of Johnny Rose.

10 “Town for Sale” - Season 1, Episode 13

Johnny Rose might be an okay father in the early seasons of Schitt's Creek, but he prides himself on being an incredible salesman, which is one of his best traits. Despite the odds being stacked against him, Johnny manages to find a buyer for Schitt's Creek which would allow the family to move and start their life somewhere else.

While "Town for Sale" is quintessential in setting up Johnny's businessman personality, it's also downright hilarious. Watching Johnny's face go from pure happiness to distraught in a matter of moments is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.

9 "Milk Money" - Season 2, Episode 8

Arguably one of the most iconic and hilarious Schitt's Creek episodes is this season two episode. After accidentally drinking a glass of expensive raw milk from Bob's Garage, Johnny enlists the help of Alexis to secure a replacement for the raw milk. However, his directions aren't clear, and, when he returns to the motel, he finds his entire room full of the illegal raw milk.

This episode alone is the best simply for Johnny's flabbergasted reaction when he walks into the motel room. It only gets better as he begins to argue with Alexis.

8 "The Throuple" - Season 3, Episode 2

It's no secret that Johnny is a frequent customer of Cafe Tropical, but many fans forget that he actually worked there for an episode in season 3. After Twyla hurts her leg, Johnny is guilted into helping her out by waiting tables for her. This should be an easy feat but it proves to be a nightmare for him.

Johnny is usually the one teaching his family lessons, but, in this episode, he learns the lesson. In the end, Johnny realizes how hard Twyla works and has an even bigger appreciation for her.

7 "Murder Mystery" - Season 3, Episode 6

Johnny spends most of his time in Schitt's Creek trying to start different businesses, and, in this episode, he decides to try to set up a golfing vacation package with a golf club. However, his interest in the package is motivated by his own desire to get back on the golf green.

This episode includes all the usual golf episode cliches like Johnny intimately helping Roland set up his swing. The humor is amplified by the fact that Johnny himself is extremely rusty.

6 "The Olive Branch" - Season 4, Episode 9

Schitt's Creek has several great running gags, but one of the best ones is the fact that, despite once being wealthy, Johnny is a terrible gift gifter. In "The Olive Branch," fans get a chance to see Johnny's bad gift-giving in action when he gifts Stevie a case of makeup.

Despite meaning well, Stevie manages to show Johnny that his gift was actually quite offensive. This might not be the end of Johnny's bad gift-giving, but it does make him more aware.

5 “Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose” - Season 4, Episode 13

Despite being on the air for six seasons, Schitt's Creek only had one holiday special which aired during the end of season 4. In the episode, Johnny hopes to reinstate a Rose family tradition by throwing an epic Christmas party at the motel. The only problem is they only have a few hours to plan it.

While Johnny is usually the most sensible in the family, this episode lets fans see his insensible side as he reminiscences about the past. Fans also got to see a softer side of Johnny when the family surprises him with the party after all.

4 "The Hospies" - Season 5, Episode 8

After months of hard work turning the Rosebud Motel around, the motel gets nominated for Best Customer's Service at the Regional Hospitality Awards. Excited, Johnny and Stevie make the trip to Elm Glen to attend the ceremony. What should be a fun day ends up disastrous thanks to Stevie's sort-of boyfriend Emir.

This episode truly shows how deeply Johnny cares about Stevie. Instead of leaving her alone in her time of need, he decides to stick by her side and drive her home.

3 "Meet The Parents" - Season 5, Episode 11

Johnny Rose always means well, but, occasionally, he puts his foot in his mouth. In an awkward moment that had fans cringing, Johnny accidentally outs Patrick to his parents when they come for a surprise visit to celebrate their son's birthday.

While outing someone is never funny, Schitt's Creek manages to tell the story in a heartfelt way that makes it one of Johnny's best episodes. He immediately apologizes for his mistake and feels terrible, but he remains supportive of David and Patrick's relationship.

2 "The Presidential Suite" - Season 6, Episode 8

After years of sleeping in the same rundown motel room, Johnny and Moira jump at the opportunity to stay in the presidential suite of the newly opened second Rosebud Motel. However, their plans are thwarted when Roland and Jocelyn have the same idea.

Not only is this a great episode for Johnny, but it's one of the best Moira, as well, because it truly shows how much they love each other and how much fun they have together. In the end, it also shows that all these two need are each other to be happy.

1 "The Pitch" - Season 6, Episode 12

After years of hard work, it's all paid off, and Johnny, Stevie, and Roland are on their way to New York to pitch their Rosebud Motel franchise. For the first time in a long time, fans get to see Johnny in all his businessman glory. Seeing Johnny happy and in his element is definitely a reason to celebrate, but his faith in Stevie and Roland makes the whole thing better.
