Marvel Turns Thor: Ragnarok's Best Meme Into A Beautiful Cover

In a new preview for Marvel's The Mighty Valkyries, one of Thor's best memes from Thor: Ragnarok gets turned into a beautiful and brilliant comic cover. Big changes are coming for Asgardian mythology in this new series, and both Jane Foster and the new Ragnarok-inspired Rúna are about to land right at the heart of the changes happening in Hel, the realm ruled by Hela and her rogue wife Karnilla. New gods are being created in the Marvel Universe, which will no doubt have some major ramifications. However, even in the midst of such major stakes, it's fun to see such a humorous cover to kick it all off.

Prior issues of The Mighy Valkyries from Jason Aaron, Torunn Grønbekk, Mattia De Iulis, and Erica D'Urso have seen Jane Foster and Rúna on solo missions as Valkryies. While Jane has been trying to protect Loki's grandchildren known as More (two gods in one wolf body), Rúna broke an Asgardian oracle out of captivity in the cosmos, which is how the Valkyrie remembered her name that she had long forgotten as one of Odin's first Valkyries. Now, it seems as though fate will be thrusting the two warrior women together in the upcoming Mighty Valkyries #4.

The new issue features some amazing cover art from Mattia De Iulis that sees Thor the God of Thunder himself arguing with Rúna about the Asgardian axe Jarnbjorn. While Jarnbjorn was the fabled axe Thor wielded when he became unworthy of Mjolnir as the Odinson, it was recently revealed that the axe originally belonged to Rúna. As such, it seems as though the two Asgardians are at an impasse, serving as an homage to the Thor: Ragnarok meme with Rúna's response to Thor. Here's the cover art, preview pages, and synopsis for the upcoming issue:

  • THE MIGHTY VALKYRIES #4
  • THE TERRIBLE THREES!
  • The bowers of Hel are filled - with new life?! Just what is Karnilla, Queen of the Dead, trying to do? And if the cycles of life and death are in flux, where does a Valkyrie's allegiance fall? Jane Foster and her new comrade in arms, Rúna, must untangle a web of lies before the realms of both the living and the dead are irrevocably changed!

Beyond the great cover art referencing Thor questioning if Bruce Banner is as powerful and useful as the Hulk, it seems as though big things are on the horizon for the Mighty Valkyries. Kraven is still on the hunt for Loki's grandchildren, Karnilla is still hidden from Hela and raising triplets who will apparently become new gods, and Hela is struggling with the fact that she's losing control of her realm. However, now that Jane and Rúna are united, it seems as though they'll be tackling the upcoming storm together. It certainly appears as though things are about to come to a head, especially considering the fact that Karnilla tied Jane's fate to those of her new children she stole from Midgard, forcing a new role upon her as the new gods' protector

In any case, it's going to be quite interesting to see what's in store for The Mighty Valkyries when the full issue releases on July 28th. While Thor's appearance on the cover art may just be for the fun meme reference, it would certainly make sense for the new All-Father and King of Asgard to get involved to some degree considering the disruptions happening in Hel and Midgard. However, new life is being created in the realm of the dead. That certainly seems like an issue best suited for the Valkyries themselves.
