Kristen Bell Cast in Amazon's People We Hate at the Wedding Comedy

The People We Hate at the Wedding, an upcoming comedy from Amazon Studios and FilmNation, added Kristen Bell to its cast list. Based on Grant Grinder's novel of the same name, the film is about a brother and sister who attend the wedding of their wealthy half-sister on the English countryside. Throughout the week of the wedding, a repressed underbelly of dysfunction begins to erupt, making for a dramatic reunion between the estranged family members. The film's script adaptation was written by Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux. Claire Scanlon will direct, with shooting to start in September of this year.

THR reported Bell was added to the wedding comedy's already impressive group of cast members. Bell will be joining Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen, The Politician, Pitch Perfect), who will play Bell's brother, and Allison Janney (I, Tonya, Mom), who will play the siblings' mother. Reports from earlier this year indicated Annie Murphy (Schitt's Creek, Kevin Can F**K Himself) would also be starring, however, the film's IMDB page currently has Murphy's name listed as "rumored" on the cast list. As for Bell, it's been quite a busy year. In addition to her narrating role for the Gossip Girl reboot, the upcoming comedy Queenpins has Bell starring alongside Vince Vaughn.

Wedding comedies seem to be a genre that never quite goes out of style. What also never tires are films that put their characters in tense, awkward situations that involve being with those who may be related by blood, but not by viewpoints. With both of these tropes at play, in combination with the film's promising mix of actors, The People We Hate at the Wedding appears to have major potential for success.
