Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelation Season 2 Is Almost Done

After a great deal of positive reception to its first season from fans and critics alike, creator Kevin Smith has revealed that fans won't have long wait for Masters of the Universe: Revelation season 2, saying that production is almost done. Despite only running for two years from 1983 to 1985, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cultivated a large following of fans, including Smith, and is considered the most successful series produced by studio Filmation. It spawned a reboot on Toonami in 2002 that was eventually rebranded as Master of the Universe vs. The Snake-Men, as well as a spin-off in the form of She-Ra: Princess of Power, which recently received a reboot on Netflix.

Developed as a continuation of the original series that sought to resolve many of the plot-points left open when show ended in 1985, Masters of the Universe: Revelation premiered on Netflix on July 23. The series features an ensemble cast, including the likes of Chris Wood, Sarah-Michelle Gellar, Mark Hamill, and Lena Headey. Despite positive critical reception, Revelation was review bombed after a small-minority of the fan-base took issue with the reduced roles of He-Man and Skeletor after they seemingly die during a cataclysmic event in the series' first episode. Instead, the focus is primarily on the titular Masters of the Universe, led by Gellar's Teela, as they try to undo the tragedy that has befallen Eternia.

While some fans reacted negatively to the shift in focus, many responded positively, with ScreenRant's own Ben Kendrick taking to Twitter to lament having to possibly wait two years for a second season. Smith responded by providing an update on the second part, and claimed that they were currently working on the score for the season's later episodes, but "Part 2 is officially picture-locked, nearly wrapped, and ready to go!" You can check out Smith's full Tweet below:

Just as the original series ended with many unresolved issues, so to did part one of Revelation, with the season ending on a significant cliff-hanger. In doing so, Smith and his team of writers have smartly laid the groundwork for more to come later down the line, and the news that Part 2 is almost finished certainly comes as a good sign to many fans. What exactly is to come in the second part is still very much under wraps, but Smith did tease that some of the fights to come are going to be suitably brutal.

While there are only two parts of Revelation confirmed, there is certainly scope for more adventures to come. It's unclear if there are further plans, but Smith has done a good job of further fleshing out the various members of the Masters of the Universe if he wanted to focus on a spin-off series. Likewise, Noelle Stevenson, showrunner of She-Ra and the Princesses of Powerhas stated that they would be open to a potential crossover with Smith's series which would certainly satisfy fans of both series. Fortunately, from Smith's own revelation, it doesn't seem as though fans will have to wait for very long to find out what's to come in part 2 of Masters of the Universe: Revelation and beyond.
