9 Not A Stand-Alone Character
Another unpopular opinion about this otherwise much-adored character states that Avery didn't work as a stand-alone character. He was always playing off other characters with whom he had a significant screen dynamic such as Mark or April, Lexie, and even Meredith or Cristina.
He was even fun to watch when he first found out about Richard dating his mother but apart from that, as an independent character, he fails to be a crowd-puller.
8 The Anti-Japril Rant
Jackson and April were one of the most beloved Grey's couples, and fans prayed hard for these two beautiful people to resolve their issues and get together.

Another opinion that goes against the trend of loving Jackson states that he was a victim of lazy writing. Not only was he paired with people who made no sense with him, i.e. Maggie, but most of his storylines also failed to grab eyeballs.
Fans seemed to have lost interest in this otherwise attractive character who practically contributed nothing towards the seasons. The writers themselves seemed to have given up on him as he hovered around, with even Catherine Fox having more to contribute in terms of the business dynamics than Jackson himself.
1 Yang & Avery Would Have Been Epic
Finally, this fan has a very unpopular opinion -Avery would have made a better couple with Cristina Yang than he did with April, it seems.
Fans might recall that Yang and Avery shared a very brief kiss in season 6 but the former was then involved with Owen, so the kiss led to nothing. But it is interesting to imagine these two young people together as a power couple, one with the money and the other with the snark and the brilliance.
