Fear Street 1994: Who Plays C. Berman (Community Link Explained)

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Fear Street Part One: 1994.

Here's who plays C. Berman in Fear Street Part One: 1994. Based on the books by R.L. Stine, Netflix's Fear Street trilogy is a unique summer movie event, with the installments all released across three consecutive weekends in July 2021. The three movies span very different era - 1994, 1978, and 1666 respectively - but they are all interconnected, with the tale of the witch, Sarah Fier, being woven throughout, alongside various killers, characters, and survivors.

One such survivor is C. Berman, the character who seemingly holds the key to both putting right the events of Fear Street: 1994 and helping to save Sam Fraser, as well as defeating Sarah Frier once and for all. C. Berman is a mysterious presence in the first Fear Street movie; originally, Deena can't get through to her on the phone, and then she does return the call, albeit it seems like too little, too late. In the closing moments of 1994, though, C. Berman makes her first appearance in the flesh, setting up both sequels to come.

Given her backstory as the impossible survivor of the 1978 Camp Nightwing massacre, who died and came back to life, then it's clear that the character will be one of the most important in the entire trilogy. As such, it's fitting that she's played by one of the more well-known names among the cast, even if she looks a bit different to usual, as Gillian Jacobs plays C. Berman in Fear Street. While Jacobs is a reasonably popular actress, she isn't as obviously recognizable in her role as Berman, largely due to her dark hair - at odds with her best-known role as Britta Perry on Community.

Jacobs played Britta across all six of Community's seasons, appearing in every episode. Aside from Community, Jacobs also starred in the Netflix romcom series Love, which ran for three seasons, had a recurring role as Mimi-Rose Howard on Girls, and voices Atom Eve in Invincible. Her upcoming roles, meanwhile, include the action movie Violence of Action alongside Chris Pine, and an untitled sports drama based around the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. As well as those, of course, Jacobs will also appear in both Fear Street: 1978 and Fear Street: 1666.

In terms of timeline, Jacobs herself is 38-years-old, but is playing C. Berman a little bit younger. She's a teenager at Camp in Fear Street Part Two: 1978, so she's likely around her early-30s in Fear Street Part One: 1994. While viewers only get a brief glimpse of Jacobs as Berman in the first movie, it's a role that's set to become increasingly important - there will obviously be a chance to see a younger version of the character in the prequel, finding out exactly what happened to her, but Jacobs too will return and likely take on a bigger part as everything begins to coalesce.
