Adult Swim has developed some of the most unique and surreal programming ever seen on television, growing in popularity to deliver some of the most well-regarded adult animated series of the 2010s. A network famous for giving creators such as Adam Reed and Tyler the Creator their first chances in the industry and for producing a show about a mystery-solving butt, Adult Swim has become the center for grungy, experimental storytelling.
This has, in turn, created some truly unforgettable characters, and, naturally, some truly despicable yet hilarious villains. On a network where anything can and will go, these iconic villains have said and done things that have more than earned Adult Swim its reputation.
10 The Mooninites (Aqua Teen Hunger Force)
The titular Aqua Teens already cause enough trouble when they're trying to do the right thing, but their world is ridden with all manner of demons, killer toys, and people that Carl owes money to. Standing above them all—literally—are the Mooninites. These pixelated baddies are aliens from the moon who often come to con Frylock, Master Shake, and Meatwad out of their money and possessions.
However, these two are not exactly intelligent life. Their alien technology is often cheap if not just inconvenient, and it's easy to see past their lies. Then again, anyone but the scientist Frylock can be swayed and peer pressured into practically doing anything, which is likely why the Mooninites keep coming back.
9 Dr. Rockzo (Metalocalypse)
It's not always easy to tell who the good guys are supposed to be in Metalocalypse. The protagonists of the story, Dethklok, are targeted by the government because their heavy metal music tends to be taken too seriously by their fans, constantly creating panic and destruction.
However, to them, their most famous antagonist—besides a room full of old guys in suits—is Dr. Rockzo. An old rocker and party clown, Dr. Rockzo and his strong addiction to cocaine have often put him at odds with Dethklok. His antics and tendency to party super hard have made him a fan favorite, though the guy really should get some help at some point.
8 Jacknife (Superjail!)
Superjail! is inherently filled with a variety of ne'er-do-wells and villains, not counting the incredibly negligent and violent staff who are running out. There are the interdimensional twins who keep wreaking havoc, the talking bird who keeps manipulating people, and the literal supervillain, Stingray.
However, few have been quite as memorable or even anywhere near as violent and destructive as the poster child in every intro, Jacknife. The supposed worst inmate in all of Superjail, Jacknife is infamous for committing various acts of assault, murder, and thievery and somehow being able to escape Superjail countless times.
7 Clay Puppington (Moral Orel)
To a degree, the entire community of Moralton can be seen as the antagonists of Moral Orel. In a series all about the hypocrisy and consequences of religion, everyone in this small town has played a part in misdirecting Orel Puppington. However, the worst offender of all has to be his father, Clay Puppington.
Clay is often the primary source of Orel's bad advice whose follow-up teachings only seem to solidify a selfish or repressive aspect of suburbia. In the season 2 finale and throughout all of season 3, he becomes a soulless, cowardly monster who constantly makes his weaknesses other people's problems. Whether it's because of his lack of honesty or selfishness, Clay is both hilarious and frustrating to watch.
6 Uncle Ruckus (The Boondocks)
Behind Riley Freeman, Uncle Ruckus is one of the most quotable characters in The Boondocks, and not necessarily for good reasons. With a drastic personality and extremely racist views, Ruckus is a violent and vulgar antagonist to everyone else in his community.
His mouth is easily the most infamous thing about him, as Ruckus has said some deplorable things that could get under anyone's skin, and he's often made his closest friends and neighbors, the Freemans, the worst victims of his jabs. He's also proven before that he is capable of traditional violence and can even stand toe-to-toe with Huey, making him a threat at nearly every level of this show's themes.
5 Fritz Hühnermörder (Robot Chicken)
Many people might not know it, but Robot Chicken's Mad Scientist does have a name. Besides the chicken himself, Fritz Hühnermörder is one of the most memorable faces of the series. He's the one responsible for kidnapping the chicken and turning him into the mechanized abomination that fans know today.
It was his plan to brainwash the chicken with the series' iconic sketches. However, ever since the robot chicken managed to escape, he has been at constant, violent odds with Fritz, as well as Fritz's family and ancestors. With a disturbed look and malicious intent, everyone can thank Fritz for all the times they got grounded for watching Robot Chicken as children.
4 Sergei Mirminsky (Delocated)
Delocated is one of Adult Swim's best live-action series, and it includes one of the most hilarious serialized plots to come out of the network. Jon and his family are on witness protection after he testified against the Russian mafia. Initially, this put them at odds with Yvgeny Mirminsky, the heir of the Mirminsky gang, but he kind of loses that role after trying to make it big as a New York comedian.
His brother Sergei, however, not only put the assassination plot back into action, but he brought a whole new level of intensity to the series. A sadistic assassin who wanted to break Jon mentally and emotionally, Sergei showed fans why they should be very afraid of the Russian mafia.
3 Killface (Frisky Dingo)
It's hard to forget a face like Killface's. Before Adam Reed went on to make Archer, one of the greatest spy-comedies of all time, he applied his witty and punchy dialogue to the crimefighting world of superheroes and villains in Frisky Dingo. Killface was the major threat of Frisky Dingo who initially planned on ransoming the entire planet with his Annihilatrix.
However, when his funds became a little too tight, he started planning various ways to take the money from Xander Crews, the rich playboy who doubles as the hero Awesome X. In season 2, Killface pivots plans a bit and becomes a political rival to crews on a campaign trail to the Whitehouse.
2 Evil Morty (Rick And Morty)
Evil Morty hasn't done a lot in Rick and Morty, but his few villainous deeds have more than proven how devious he is and made a considerable impact on the fandom. Not much is known about his final plan, but he's proven that he's a formidable rival to Rick given how he tricked him during their first meeting and has gone on to manipulate so many more.
He was supposedly the mastermind behind the plot to frame Rick and kidnap countless versions of Morty in "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind." He would go on to top that outing when he manipulated an entire election and staged a coup on the Citadel of Ricks. Though he's made few steps, each one has made quite the impression on the world and fans.
1 The Mighty Monarch (The Venture Bros.)
In a world full of supervillains, The Mighty Monarch manages to stand tall as the most arch of them all. While he's far from the most competent or even intelligent among his peers, the Monarch has more hate than any of them for his arch-nemesis, Dr. Venture, and his ambition constantly pushes him to keep torturing the ex-kid adventurer and to keep following his own path.
Whether it's because of his resilience, style, or magnetic personality, the Monarch has gone on to be a bigger fan favorite than most of the series' supposed heroes.
