Netflix's horror drama Things Heard & Seen released this past April, adapting the novel All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage. The film shares the story of the Claire family (led by Amanda Seyfried's Catherine and James Norton's George), who move from Manhattan to a seemingly haunted home in the countryside of Chosen, New York and struggle against supernatural forces.
Things Heard & Seen features an expertly cast ensemble, from the always-engaging Seyfried – best known for her roles in Mean Girls and Mank – to the delightful Natalia Dyer, who shot to fame following her role in Netflix's Stranger Things. After finishing the film, fans can revisit the filmographies of each actor involved, as many have featured in a number of other hit franchises.
10 Emily Dorsch: Fosse/Verdon (2019)
In Things Heard & Seen, Emily Dorsch stars as the deceased Ella Vayle, the previous tenant of the house that Catherine and George move into who was killed in a murder-suicide by her husband and still haunts the grounds.
Prior to being cast in this part, Dorsch left an impression on audiences in the FX miniseries Fosse/Verdon, appearing as Gertrude Verdon, the strict mother of Michelle Williams' Gwen Verdon, who helps steer her daughter into showbiz.
9 F. Murray Abraham: Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham appears as Floyd DeBeers in Things Heard & Seen, the department head of the college where George works who later lends his help to Catherine when she tries to communicate with the spirits in their home by hosting a séance.
Abraham has quite the formidable filmography, but in recent years, his most memorable role came in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, where he starred as the powerful music manager Bud Grossman whom Oscar Issac's Llewyn Davis is aiming to impress with his prowess as a performer.
8 Jack Gore: The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2020)
Teen actor Jack Gore may not have many films on his resume just yet, but he's steadily acquiring a number of acting credits, starting with his work in Things Heard & Seen as Cole Vayle, a local boy who used to live in Catherine and George's new home and keeps secrets from the couple.
Gore's most notable role prior to starring in this horror thriller was voicing a young Patrick Star in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, shining a light on the starfish's past in that film's flashback sequences.
7 Karen Allen: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Actress Karen Allen has appeared in many hit films throughout Hollywood history, and in Things Heard & Seen, she lends her talents to play Mare Laughton, the shady real estate agent who sells Catherine and George their new haunted home.
Most notably, Allen is remembered for her role as Marion Ravenwood in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, assisting Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones on his search for the Ark of the Covenant and simultaneously serving as his love interest. She later reprised the role in 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
6 Michael O'Keefe: Caddyshack (1980)
Actor Michael O'Keefe makes an appearance in Things Heard & Seen as Travis Laughton, the husband of Karen Allen's Mare and the town's sheriff, who also possesses knowledge of the secrets of the home that Catherine and George move into.
O'Keefe is best known for playing Danny Noonan in the 1980 comedy Caddyshack, the protagonist who eagerly pursues a caddy scholarship in the hopes of attending college, winning the favor Ted Knight's snippy Judge Smails in the process.
5 Rhea Seehorn: Better Call Saul (2015-present)
Rhea Seehorn immediately captures the audience's interest in Things Heard & Seen as the captivating Justine, George's new colleague who later befriends Catherine as well, coming to her defense when her husband succumbs to the horrors of their new home.
Prior to her work in Things Heard & Seen, Seehorn could most often be seen playing the ambitious attorney Kim Wexler in AMC's Better Caul Saul, the wife of Bob Odenkirk's slimy Saul Goodman who constantly becomes embroiled in her husband's schemes.
4 Alex Neustaedter: Colony (2016-2018)
Alex Neustaedter is a star on the rise, with his role in Things Heard & Seen providing him with one of his biggest parts to date as the eccentric Eddie Vayle, the older brother of Cole who offers to help around the Claires' new home and later starts an affair with Catherine.
Neustaedter is best known for playing Bram Bowman on USA Network's sci-fi drama series Colony, a troubled teen who lives in an alien-occupied Los Angeles and later joins a resistance group to combat this extraterrestrial threat.
3 Natalia Dyer: Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
As the cryptic college student Willis Howell, Natalia Dyer instantly earned the audience's attention in Things Heard & Seen, always making them question her methods after she starts an affair with George and seems to have more suspicious intentions for the philandering professor.
Obviously, Dyer became a star after the success of Netflix's Stranger Things, but she also turned in stellar work in a supporting role in 2019's satirical horror thriller Velvet Buzzsaw, appearing as the coy Coco alongside actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, and Toni Collette.
2 James Norton: Little Women (2019)
Norton's George puts the plot of Things Heard & Seen in motion when moving his family from their Manhattan home all the way out to an isolated farm in the countryside, and he further contributes to the film's drama through both his affair with Willis and his mental breakdown/possible possession in the movie's frightful finale.
By comparison, Norton's work in Greta Gerwig's Little Women is far nicer. There, he stars as John Brooke, the handsome husband of Emma Watson's Meg March, whom she meets when he starts tutoring Laurie.
1 Amanda Seyfried: First Reformed (2018)
Recent Academy Award-nominee Seyfried perhaps has the most impressive filmography of any actor in the Things Heard & Seen cast, and her compelling work as Catherine Claire can easily stand alongside her most rewarding roles to date, leading the horror story as George's incessantly worried wife with skill and sincerity.
It'd be easy to point to Seyfried's parts in musicals like Mamma Mia! or Les Misérables as further examples of her towering talent, but instead, audiences should seek out the religious drama First Reformed for her riveting supporting role, where she delivers some of the most stunning work in her career so far.
