There Is Now Final Fantasy Origin And Origins | Screen Rant

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin has many years of confusion ahead of it, as there was already a game on the original PlayStation called Final Fantasy Origins. The PlayStation had a number of older Final Fantasy titles that were ported to the console, some of which were released in English for the first time.

The incredible success of the original Final Fantasy 7 inspired interest in the series from people in Europe and North America. Final Fantasy's strange numbering system that existed before FF7 threw off a lot of fans in North America, as FF4 became FF2 and FF6 became FF3, due to the other entries not being localized for Western markets. Europe didn't even receive any of the numbered Final Fantasy games before FF7. As such, Square Enix ported and remade every pre-FF7 game for the PlayStation, with the exception of FF3, which didn't receive an English localization until the Nintendo DS era.

There was a lot of confusion regarding the names and numbers of the Final Fantasy series for a while, but Square Enix eventually kept things consistent around the world. It's surprising then, that the upcoming Final Fantasy Origin has such a similar name to another release in the series.

Final Fantasy Origins contained remakes of the first two Final Fantasy games, which had upgraded graphics, QoL features, and CG cutscenes. The games were still a bit primitive when compared to the later entries in the series, but they offered a lot of content, and the added improvements made them far easier to play than their original NES counterparts. This was the first official English release of Final Fantasy 2, so it was the only way many could experience the game without resorting to fan-made patches.

The full name of the upcoming action-RPG game is Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, but judging from current trends, most fans are going to dump the first part of the name and just call it Final Fantasy Origin. Stranger of Paradise doesn't flow quite so well in English, and lacks the name of the series, leaving Final Fantasy Origin seeming stronger. The same thing has happened with games like Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy, albeit in reverse, which most fans just called Dissidia 2 or Dissidia 012 in conversation. Fans and critics alike shorten the names of games all of the time, and the original Final Fantasy Origins is likely to be supplanted by Final Fantasy Origin in conversation, as it's the more contemporary game. Square Enix nearly called the game Stranger of Paradise and didn't use the Final Fantasy branding, which could have made things easier - despite causing a few new issues of its own.
