The Best Versions Of Love Island Ranked | Screen Rant

The Love Island phenomenon is back and bigger than ever! With Love Island UK starting on June 28, fans all over the world are gearing for the show to come back better than ever. Viewers have been on a long hiatus due to the pandemic. The last season did not excite fans the way they hoped, but host Laura Whitmore has been teasing that the season will be amazing. Due to the success of the UK version of Love Island, there have been countless other versions around the world.

Love Island USA jumped onto the bandwagon of the hit show and debuted their first season in 2019. Although it was met with mixed reviews from the audience, another season was released. With the popularity of the show, it has become a full-blown franchise. Countries like South Africa, Spain, and very soon Nigeria, have taken their spin on it and it has either been as amazing as the first season of Australia’s version, or it simply fell flat. Here are the different Love Island versions that are worth a watch.

Love Island South Africa was the first time the franchise ventured into the African continent, aside from the Love Island UK season where the villa was in Cape Town. It was exciting to see the franchise on an entirely different continent, and fans hoped if the show were in an African country that would mean more diversity, and this was not the case. Love Island SA only had three Black contestants on their premiere episode, which did not sit well with viewers.

There were many complaints, not only on the diversity but also because of the terrible camera work, sound, and production in general. However, it did have some redeeming qualities, as it showcased what Love Island could look like on the African continent, as production began adding more people of color. Although the Love Island SA season was a bit of a mess, it is not a bad watch. The drama is enough to hold viewers' attention, although they can do better.

Love Island USA has tried to emulate the success of the British version in the States, so much so in the second season, they have a British contestant. While they have had moderate success the show still has a long way to go. Their attempts have been valiant, and the show is worth a watch. The series has had unforgettable moments like in-season, great characters, and of course good season villains.

For season two of Love Island, Johnny Middlebrooks had a bit of a reputation for being a player, due to him making out with casa amor babe Mercedes. Although Cely Vazquez forgave Johnny, fans were not impressed with him. Aside from the Cely and Johnny drama, Love Island viewers did grow fond of Justine and Caleb, as they became the first non-white couple to win the franchise. However, both Love Island relationships broke down soon after the cameras stopped rolling. But Cely and Justine still have each other.

Even if you do not understand Polish, if you speak the language of drama, you will love the Polish Love Island. This version of Love Island strikes the chord between drama and romance. Throughout their run from when they began in 2019. The series is on its third season, and it is widely popular in Poland. The show has had its fair share of drama, from stolen kisses and hidden relationships to fights. They emphasize the relationship and romance over the drama, which is refreshing. So, for Love Island fans who favor love over drama, Love Island Poland may be the one.

The show is a great spin-off of the amazing original Love Island. Their Instagram has 266K followers and consistently posts engaging content. The only thing different about Love Island Poland, however, is during their season three line-up for matchups on the first day, the women did not wear bikinis and the men did not wear swim shorts. While different from other versions of the show, this does not affect the drama, as they are sure to bring lots of it. Winners and finalists have gone on to be popular public figures in the country.

Love Island Australia came in hot when their first season debuted in 2018. The cast was great, albeit their lack of diversity throughout the season, which they tried and failed to address in season two. Despite this, however, the Australian version had all the drama if not more than the UK version during their first season. From cast members cheating on their partners to new people stealing and breaking connections, Love Island Australia definitely deserves a watch.

After the success of their season one, season two ratings fell quite badly. The show lost the sparkle it initially had, but hopefully, as they prepare for their season three which will premiere in late 2021, things get better. Viewers hope the producers pick the cast better as the season two cast lacked chemistry, drama, and any true romance.

Without a doubt, the British version of Love Island is the best. They are the blueprint and other versions of the show can only aspire to be as good as the UK one. The show has had six seasons and has had a while to perfect the drama and casting, while other versions are still trying to catch up. Love Island UK has many memorable moments, and the Love Island contestants usually become bonafide celebrities, and influencers, like Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury. Rather than being deemed as only reality stars, there is space to become more than that.

Love Island UK will come on top for a while as the other versions are still finding their footing and need to find their own identity outside of the British one. There is simply something unmatched with Love Island UK, whether it is their accents, their slang, or simply because it was the first one, if other versions want to surpass this version of Love Island, they may be holding their breath because they will remain on top for a while.
