Spider-Man's Darkest Villain Is Secretly Forming A New Sinister Six

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Amazing Spider-Man #67

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man, one of Peter Parker's darkest foes is secretly forming a brand new Sinister Six. While the demonic villain and alternate Harry Osborn known as Kindred had been captured, he's just been set free by his father Norman, a seemingly reformed Green Goblin who now cares about his son. Now, Kindred is already making plans to put Spider-Man through a new gauntlet of torment, one that will possibly be much more brutal than the first, involving more than one team of his greatest foes.

While recent issues have seen Spider-Man teaming up with former members of the New Avengers to battle the Kingpin, Kindred had been locked up during the entire conflict, trapped in a cube made from the Darkforce Dimension to contain his power. Thanks to a teaming-up of Mary Jane Watson and Norman, the pair where able to rescue Spider-Man and his allies while trapping this alternate version of Harry Osborn from before Peter Parker made his deal with Mephisto during the controversial One More Day storyline. As Kindred's captive, Spider-Man was repeatedly killed and resurrected by Kindred, who was trying to get the Webslinger to remember the dark deal he made that Mephisto had erased from his memory.

Now, it looks as though Kindred is working on a new phase to torment Spider-Man even further in Amazing Spider-Man #67 from Nick Spencer, Marcelo Ferreira, and Carlos Gómez. Spider-Man himself is grappling not only with Betty Brant being pregnant and Ned Leeds seemingly having returned from the dead, but also with the fact that his super-spy sister Teresa is confronting the Chameleon about their parents. However, Kindred steals the show at the issue's end, having recruited Doc Ock to form a new Sinister Six, making promises about restoring Octavius' mind after his own One More Day deal with Mephisto back in Superior Spider-Man #11.

While this is an exciting tease for Marvel's upcoming Sinister War with Doc Ock's team fighting the Vulture's, this issue confirms that Kindred is the one orchestrating it all. His manipulation of Octavius is particularly interesting as well, and it further confirms his connection to Mephisto and his dark deals. At the moment, Doc Ock doesn't remember his time as the Superior Spider-Man, as his deal with the Demon Lord led to him becoming a villain once more. As a result, it would certainly be interesting to see Octavius being "made whole" as Kindred is promising. Would regaining those memories allow him to start on the path to becoming a force for good in the world?

In any case, Sinister War will no doubt prove to be Spider-Man's next great challenge, dealing with 12 villains across two Sinister Six teams who'd just as soon unite to see him dead in the midst of warring amongst themselves. Evidently, it's all going to part of Kindred's greater plans and it's clear that he's not done with Spider-Man by a long shot. Hopefully, this upcoming event will be this dark Harry's endgame, seeing as how the mystery of Kindred began way back in 2018.
