Pete Hines, Bethesda's SVP of Global Marketing and Communications, has said the Wolfenstein studio's Indiana Jones game remains in the "very early" phases of development. Lucasfilm unveiled the Indiana Jones title in January 2021, noting that MachineGames will helm the project. Bethesda Games Studios' Todd Howard is on board to executive produce.
Details about the licensed game itself presently remain under lock and key; thus, information regarding the narrative and setting has yet to surface. MachineGames' intentions with regards to the style of game aren't known either. Could the Indiana Jones adventures emerge in the form of a Wolfenstein-style first-person shooter, or might the development team explore a third-person camera perspective à la Tomb Raider and Uncharted? Given the current state of the project, such insight may not begin circulating for quite some time.
On the heels of a report that MachineGames' Indiana Jones title recently entered production, Bethesda marketing lead Pete Hines confirmed the team is in the "very early" phases of development. Hines noted as much in an interview with GameSpot (via GamingBolt), wherein he told the publication: "Obviously, we literally just announced that deal, so you can make your own guesses about how far along that game is. They’re in the very, very, very early stages of working on the Indiana Jones game.”
Of course, this begs the question of when exactly the new interactive Indiana Jones adventure is on track to release. Presumably, the crew at MachineGames also has its hands full with the next mainline Wolfenstein entry, which itself hasn't received a formal reveal.
Todd Howard's involvement as an Executive Producer raises a fair few questions as well, particularly given his status on both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI. Starfield will hit stores for PC and Xbox platforms next fall in November; meanwhile, the new Elder Scrolls installment lacks even the most cursory of release date information. Pete Hines previously attempted to alleviate the concerns of fans by noting that while Howard does have a lot on his plate, his focus centers on directing Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI. This could mean that Indiana Jones may now swing into action until after Bethesda ships both of these projects.
The Indiana Jones title from MachineGames currently lacks release details.
