Forza Horizon 5 has been officially revealed and it looks absolutely remarkable. The first trailer for Forza Horizon 5 dropped during Microsoft and Bethesda's joint Xbox E3 2021 conference and confirms that the game will be set in Mexico, as had been heavily speculated. It looks like a gorgeous game that will feature a lot of different terrains and even new weather effects, something introduced into Forza Horizon 4.
Various insiders began teasing a Mexico setting for Forza Horizon 5 earlier this year, but it left many wondering what the state of the already-revealed Forza Motorsport 8 is. Tragically, there were no new updates on that at Xbox's E3 showing, so it's unclear if it's still coming or if Forza Horizon 5 has taken priority for the team which wouldn't be surprising since Playground Games is also doing the new Fable. That said, Forza Horizon 5 seems to be keeping them plenty busy.
Forza Horizon 5 will bring the series to Mexico on November 9, 2021 and include things like sandstorms, volcanoes, and photorealistic graphics thanks to footage and images captured by the team. Beyond the beautiful scenery, Forza Horizon 5 will also introduce a campaign and a map creator called Event Lab which allows for players to make whatever their heart desires. This could relate to the recent Hot Wheel and Forza Horizon leak as this game looks to set up a lot of incredibly imaginative possibilities.
Forza Horizon 5 looks to be an absolute stunner - not just because of its map maker mode, although that does help - but it's not clear if the Xbox One will be able to accurately replicate this level of fidelity. Microsoft plans to support Xbox One for the foreseeable future, but as these games get bigger in scale, it's going to be hard for the almost ten year old console to keep up without having super noticeable differences.
Whether or not Forza Motorsport 8 will be the first true "next-gen" game in the series remains to be seen. Forza Motorsport 8 is seemingly still happening, as Turn 10 is looking to being playtesting soon. Perhaps the game will be releasing next year, but in the meantime, Forza Horizon 5 looks to be like a major step forward for the series and will be the natural evolution of the series. It looks like Playground Games is doing a lot to try and be the dominant racing franchise, as it seems to be trying to directly compete with Grand Theft Auto Online's wacky player-created races.
