Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Finally Not Wii U Exclusive Anymore

It was revealed during the Nintendo E3 2021 Direct that Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will no longer be a Wii U exclusive, as it's coming to Nintendo Switch. Publisher Koei Tecmo has since confirmed that the game is also coming to more platforms, and it will have new features not included in the Wii U original.

Maiden of Black Water is the fifth entry in the Fatal Frame series. Like the other games in the franchise, the player has to defeat ghosts by taking their picture with a camera. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water also had a mechanic involving a wetness meter, causing evil spirits to increasingly home in on the character the damper they were.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was one of the last few holdouts of the Wii U exclusives and it will soon leave the nest. Nintendo revealed during its E3 Direct that Maiden of Black Water is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021. A trailer for the game on the Koei Tecmo has now confirmed that it will also be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in its own multiplatform announcement trailer.

It was also revealed that Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will have a new photo mode and costumes. It's extremely likely that the Nintendo costumes from the Wii U version of the game will be replaced - at least on non-Switch platforms. The original version of Maiden of Black Water had Princess Zelda and Samus costumes, but those will likely be replaced with outfits from Koei Tecmo characters on other platforms (if not entirely). Knowing the publisher, there's a good chance they will be swapped with Atelier or Dead or Alive costumes.

The Wii U has lost so many of its great exclusives over the past year. It's just the Nintendo Land, Star Fox Zero, Game & Wario fans left who can justify holding on to their systems. Maiden of the Black Water was one of the last holdouts, but at least more people will be able to experience it this time around. The Wii U GamePad was the perfect controller for the system, but that wasn't enough of a draw to keep it locked to Nintendo's doomed console.
