It was revealed during E3 2021 that Diablo 2: Resurrected will be released for PC and consoles on September 23, 2021. Diablo 2: Resurrected is an upcoming HD remaster of the original game, which will even allow players to experience the original game on modern systems with the press of a button.
Diablo 2: Resurrected includes a number of QoL improvements over the base game, but Blizzard has stressed that it's intended to be as similar as possible to the original experience, just with added benefits. The Resurrected mode is a gorgeous reimagining of the original game, with visuals that are on par with Diablo 3, while the Legacy mode is an upscaled version of the original game that looks pleasing on modern displays. Diablo 2: Resurrected won't contain any microtransactions or similar paid items. The people who purchase Diablo 2: Resurrected will get the full experience with no extra cost.
The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase featured lots of announcements for PC and Xbox Series X/S games, but Blizzard also had something to reveal during the event. Diablo 2: Resurrected is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 23. It contains the original game and the Lord of Destruction expansion pass in one package, and it will have its own multiplayer ladder. A trailer of the game has been uploaded to the official Diablo YouTube channel.
The people who pre-order Diablo 2: Resurrected will also receive benefits in Diablo 3. Players will receive the Heritage of Arreat transmog in Diablo 3, which will alter the Barbarian character so that they are sporting the leather armor and blue face paint of the Barbarian from Diablo 2. A multiplayer beta will be available on supported platforms in August to those who pre-order the game, with five of the several playable classes available for use. The only classes that won't be available in the multiplayer beta are the Assassin and Necromancer, but they will be available in the game at launch.
Diablo 2: Resurrected is a gorgeous reimagining of the original game in its HD mode and people who have played the Diablo 2 technical alpha have talked about the nostalgic rush that comes with returning to the game and exploring the dark corners of the Monastery. There's still no word regarding the release date of Diablo 4, but old-school fans of the series will at least be able to return to one of the best entries in the franchise later this year.
Diablo 2: Resurrected will be released for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5 Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on September 23.
