Call Of Duty Players Report A Multiplayer Outage On Xbox

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is experiencing an outage for the multiplayer servers on Xbox. It's not the first time Call of Duty fans have suffered issues like this, but it does come just weeks after the launch of the game's third season which included new maps, skins, and other exciting content.

Black Ops Cold War is one of the most successful entries in the series, helping contribute to Activision's billions of dollars in revenue in the last year. The studio has been supporting the game with tons of substantial content and even tied Black Ops Cold War into Warzone through a recent update. The latest update to the free-to-play battle royale brought the iconic Verdansk map back to 1984 and integrated some of the stories from Black Ops Cold War's campaign into the mode. It's likely the support will continue over the next year or so, as it's Activision's main focus for the foreseeable future.

Nonetheless, it would seem Black Ops Cold War is experiencing issues with its online. Players are reporting an inability to connect to online matches and Xbox has confirmed the reports to be authentic. Given Call of Duty is a major investment for Activision, it's possible this is actually resulting in a rather noteworthy loss of revenue for the publisher. As of right now, Xbox is reporting its gaming services are "limited". It's unclear if other games such as Warzone are affected at this time.

Xbox is currently working on the matter, but for now, players may struggle to find a match in-game. Although this seems to be an issue unrelated to Activision or Treyarch, it's one of many noteworthy issues to plague the game in recent months. Black Ops Cold War has been wrought with bugs and glitches since launch, as it was reportedly somewhat rushed to hit a November release and was largely developed from home thanks to the pandemic.

Still, Activision will truck along with Call of Duty 2021 later this fall with Sledgehammer Games leading the charge. There's no official word on what the game will be about, but rumors indicate a WWII setting for the title. Sledgehammer was making Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2019, prior to it being a Black Ops game, but was pulled off of the game due to development issues. This will mean this year's entry will only have had about two years to be developed.
