With every 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? episode, Brandon Gibbs seems to lose credibility over his treatment of Julia Trubkina. The Dinwiddie dude who was often called out for not being a mama’s boy and immature during 90 Day Fiancé season 8 is now being even more unreasonable after being married to Julia. But judgmental Julia already annoying fans with her insufferable attitude and insecurity during their Las Vegas vacation is still earning sympathy thanks to Brandon’s spineless behavior. Not only is Brandon not leaving his parents' farm a red flag for 90 Day Fiancé fans, but it’s also him discouraging Julia by chiding the Russian girl’s English skills.
While TLC viewers were happy to see Julia and Brandon finally get out of Betty and Ron’s Virginia farm in their 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 6 storyline, things did take a turn for the worse. When starry-eyed city girl Julia expressed her wish to stay in Las Vegas, Brandon’s annoying reply to her was a cruel “This isn’t real life.” The pest control technician using “living in a cardboard box" as a metaphor for their poor finances and asking Julia if she had a hidden source of income was straight up snarky. But in the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off’s episode 2, when a hopeful Julia announced she couldn’t wait to start working as a wedding planner after getting a green card, Brandon demotivated her by saying she didn’t have the “correct English skills.”
With Brandon being unable to support his family of two on his own, and 90 Day Fiancé star Julia wanting to help out by doing a job instead of just pinching pennies, her move was praised by TLC viewers. But when Brandon should have helped her write and learn the language, he instead compared her to a native English speaker. He further tried to flaunt his signature dark humor by adding how with her English, Julia would end up destroying someone’s wedding. However, being “realistic” ended up making Brandon even more of a villain for 90 Day Fiancé fans, and his “whatever” to Julia saying he should have been supportive was the final straw.
TLC viewers took to Twitter to voice their frustration against 90 Day Fiancé star Brandon. A fan @shestyled wrote about how they “hate people like Brandon” who are content with mediocracy and want everyone around him to be the same. “It’s hard to watch him limit Julia and her abilities due to his lack of ambition,” as @rated_it stressed that unlike what Brandon thinks, all of Julia’s dreams are “realistic and reasonable.” The 90 Day Fiancé fan also mentioned that Julia fluent enough already. “I've been listening to Julia speak English for two seasons....what does Brandon even mean??” they added.
But amidst fans who were happy to see Julia finally feeling happy since uprooting her glam life back home for Brandon, some fans also supported the 90 Day Fiancé husband’s views. “I’m with Brandon on this one,” posted @VexxLexx who observed that Julia has a “distorted and unrealistic perception” of life in America. Not only did the fan think that moving to a large city with no career is “dumb” but Brandon and Julia also have minimal funds. Meanwhile, another 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? viewer @sandyshores813 joked that Julia should look up Anfisa Arkhipchenko Nava as she may be “looking for a roommate.”
