All of the characters in Inuyasha feel distinct and well-developed, and each character brings something new to the table. From demons to princesses to everything in between, fans of the series are sure to find a favorite character that they can connect with and discover the many quirks and traits of that character's personality.

10 Kagura

Fans of Kagura are willful and goal-oriented and hate to be controlled. As a prisoner of her circumstances, Kagura is often manipulated by Naraku, who shows little regard for her well-being. Such treatment leaves Kagura to use the same tactics to get by, opting to manipulate and deceive those around her.

Kagura's goal of ridding herself of Naraku somewhat allies her with Inuyasha and his friends. In her calculating manner, the wind user allows Inuyasha to escape multiple times in the hopes that he will eventually defeat Naraku. Despite being Naraku's servant, Kagura displays care for Kohaku and Kanna, and she even reveals her romantic side for Sesshomaru. Above all else, Kagura wants to be free and answer to no one but herself.

9 Rin

Fans of Rin are receptive and easy-going, but they can also be a bit complacent at times. Optimistic and trusting, Rin is also often too willing to go along with Sesshomaru's displays of brutality. She can be formal with people around her and prefers things to go smoothly with little confrontation. However, because of the trauma, she has experienced, Rin has a pessimistic view of humans, especially adults.

Rin has a knack for creating harmony for her traveling companions, and her acceptance of those around her leads her to be well cared for. Since she is so devoted to Sesshomaru, she at times fails to assert herself and express her wants. Still, Rin tries to look on the bright side of life and goes to great lengths to show her gratitude and care for those dear to her heart.

8 Shippo

Fans of Shippo have a strong spirit and will, but they can also be quite sensitive and can co-dependent. While Shippo is the smallest and weakest member of the party, he consistently fights alongside his comrades despite being afraid.

Once he sets his sight on a goal, he sees it through to the end. When he fought the Thunder Brothers, he knew that they were much stronger than him and he had no chance of winning, but he didn't give up, and with Kagome's and Inuyasha's help, he was able to avenge his father's death. Shippo enjoys helping his companions to achieve their goals, and, while he can be dependent on others for help, he is at his happiest when he is surrounded by his friends.

7 Sango

Fans of Sango are efficient and committed, but they are often troubled by the weight of responsibility. Sango is a courageous and prideful warrior with an enormous sense of obligation toward her clan, her work as a demon slayer, and, of course, Kohaku.

Since Sango is on such an emotionally strenuous path, she can get defensive and indecisive. Beyond her cool and collected exterior is a young woman who yearns for security and trust, but, once she feels accepted, her loyalty for her friends never wavers. Although she is an accomplished yokai taijiya, she still wrestles with self-doubt and anxiety, especially concerning her brother. She is both tender and aggressive, trusting and suspicious, and this duality makes her a dynamic and relatable individual.

6 Miroku

Fans of Miroku are perceptive and innovative, but can be quite eccentric and may hide their pain and feelings. It's easy to see Miroku as an opportunistic lecher, but underneath his eccentric behavior lies a thoughtful, brave, and curious problem solver.

Miroku is able to take an objective stance on a situation and analyze the details, even in the middle of an encounter with an enemy. Behind Miroku's tireless pursuit of knowledge and truth are existential fears and the threat of imminent death, which he attempts to deal with alone until his heart is softened by his companions. His ability to see through to the heart of an issue is indicative of his keen understanding of how the world works and is the basis for how he interacts with others around him.

5 Koga

Fans of Koga are straightforward and decisive, but they can also be insensitive to the feelings of others. Koga is a true leader who is fiercely loyal to his pack, as he will not hesitate to put his life on the line to protect those he cares about. At first, he does not have compassion for humans, but his initial lack of feelings changes through his relationship with Kagome.

Kagome is head-strong and confident and is not afraid to rush into a situation without thinking about the consequences. He is wild and has sharp instincts, but he can be oblivious to the desires of others, as he often puts his own feelings first. That said, his love for Kagome is pure, and he genuinely cares for his companions and would gladly die to protect the people who are most important to him.

4 Sesshomaru

Fans of Sesshomaru are confident and domineering but are also caring to those they are close with. Born with great potential and opportunities, Sesshomaru's confidence in himself never wavers. He is certain in himself to the point of wanting to take on the strongest demons in the world just to prove that he can.

Like his younger brother Inuyasha, Sesshomaru also prefers to dominate every environment he's in, believing that he's destined to wield all the power. His character softens and becomes less power-hungry as the story progresses thanks to this meeting with Rin. Caring for a human girl allows Sesshomaru to learn compassion and find meaning in his inheritance of Tenseiga while staying authoritative and dignified.

3 Kikyo

Fans of Kikyo can be vengeful but are also purposeful and principled. As a human, she displays compassion toward children and bandits alike. Although the responsibility of a priestess weighed greatly upon her, she still chose to die and destroy the Shikon Jewel out of a sense of principle.

After her resurrection, she is consumed by hatred for Inuyasha, but, over time, her sense of right and wrong returns as she struggles with resentment and perfectionism. In an effort to stay true to her ideals, Kikyo has a hard time expressing her desires, which causes others to view her as rigid. As she learns about the circumstances of her death, Kikyo learns to forgive, let go, and find a love for life she did not feel in the past.

2 Kagome

Fans of Kagome are generous, interpersonal, and have a strong sense of justice, but can also be hot-headed at times. Well-meaning and driven by her empathy, Kagome easily makes connections with others. Her sincerity and helpfulness allow her to navigate the Warring State Era with relative ease.

People like her are able to make friendships in the strangest of circumstances, be they demon or human, thanks to a personality that is genuine and accepting of differences. However, Kagome is not a flat character; jealousy, possessiveness, and a fiery temper are all present within her. While she wants nothing more than to show others compassion, she is still an opinionated teenage girl who is embarking on a treacherous journey.

1 Inuyasha

Fans of Inuyasha are decisive and confrontational but are on the road to vulnerability and wisdom. Inuyasha doesn't lack confidence, which leads many fans to consider him to be egotistical. Also, he often feels like he has to be in control of his environment, and, as a result, he can become confrontational and boastful.

In reality, Inuyasha is quite sensitive, and he puts up a facade to protect himself. Due to his hard childhood and Kikyo's betrayal, Inuyasha became unable to open his heart to others, believing that love would give his power away and leave him exposed. However, upon meeting Kagome and making friends on their journey, Inuyasha relaxes his tough-guy act and slowly learns how to be vulnerable.
