Apex Legends Legacy’s New Arenas Game Mode Explained

The high-octane battle royale Apex Legends is about to enter its ninth in-game season, called Legacy due to its connections to developer Respawn's Titanfall series. The games have always shared the same universe, but Legacy's new character is a Titan pilot named Valkyrie, and she's not the only new addition coming to Apex. Just over two years after its released, Apex Legends is adding a new game mode, one more akin to traditional deathmatch shooters, called Arenas.

Apex Legends' Arenas game mode is the first mode to come to the game that doesn't fit within its usual battle royale structure. There have been multiple special events in Apex Legends that put new rules in place to shake things up, but Arenas is a completely new and permanent game mode played on specially designed maps looking to put the focus solely on combat. Arenas will pit two teams of three against each other where each player will have one life per round, with revives still possible but no respawns. The first team to three victories while maintaining a victory margin of two will be crowned victorious. If one team isn't able to pull ahead, the game will eventually culminate in a sudden death ninth round.

Speculation about Apex Legends' Arenas mode has been circulating since it was announced, with many people looking forward to a more traditional FPS game mode without the looting and cutthroat consequences of dying in a battle royale. A new Legacy gameplay trailer has finally given fans a sneak peak into what they can expect from Apex Legends' Arenas when it drops on May 4th.

Even though Arenas is going to be quite a different experience from a regular game of Apex Legends, there are many elements that will be familiar to players. For instance, supply bins, air drops, and crafting materials will all be present in an Arenas match. Supply bins will be scattered throughout the map to give players consumable items so health can be recharged. An air drop will land during every round carrying three weapons for players to loot - the later the round; the better the guns. Crafting materials, which are typically used with the replicators, can be found around the Arenas maps, but will be used to purchase a loadout at the beginning of each round.

In a similar manner to popular games like Counter Strike and Valorant, players can spend their crafting materials on weapons, skill charges, and consumables prior to each round. Weapons will not carry over to the subsequent round, but crafting materials will. The contents of that round's air drop will also be listed on the shop screen, so players will want to keep an eye out and save materials if there is a chance their favorite gun will be readily available on the map. Arenas is an exciting new development for Apex Legends, and the mode might help it appeal to more players interested in the game but not the battle royale genre itself.
