Disco Elysium: The Final Cut Release Date Announced As March 30

ZA/UM’s award-winning title has not been available on consoles up to this point, but the developers just announced Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is coming to the PlayStation systems at the end of the month. The detective role-playing game, which initially released in October 2019, focuses heavily on dialogue rather than combat to support the game's plot. This seems to have worked as its impressive branching narrative and hard-hitting insights impressed players and critics alike after it launched.

Though the ceremony took place only two months after the game’s release, Disco Elysium went on to make a huge splash at The Game Awards in 2019. The annual event put on by Geoff Keighley is arguably one of the biggest nights for recognizing video games, and the competition can be fierce. Despite being up against titles like Control, Kingdom Hearts III, and The Outer Worlds, the Disco Elysium team walked away with trophies for Best Narrative, Best Independent Game, Fresh Indie Game, and Best Role-Playing Game. The following year, ZA/UM decided to reveal a new version of the game, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, on The Game Awards stage. Though it was confirmed that the game would be launching on consoles at some point, the initial announcement did not furnish much information on the exact date.

The PlayStation Blog revealed today that Disco Elysium: The Final Cut would make its way onto Sony’s consoles on March 30. Nearly two years after the game’s initial launch, PlayStation owners will be able to jump into the point-and-click adventure in two weeks. The post is geared towards new players getting ready to jump into the game as it sets up the world’s tone and doles out a few helpful hints. A trailer which dropped today from the Disco Elysium team showcases the game’s beautiful, and gritty, world which PlayStation 5 players will experience in 4K with 60 FPS. The video takes players through several of the game’s locations while highlighting many new aspects coming with the console port.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will update several elements from the original game which earned it some criticism at launch, while also stuffing in even more content. The voice acting in this version has been significantly expanded, which was an enormous undertaking for the team considering the sheer volume of dialogue in the game. The update also promises to introduce additional side quests, areas, and characters. When speaking about the upcoming release, ZA/UM suggested the version best aligned with the game the studio intended to make.

While today’s announcements relate primarily to the PlayStation ecosystem, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will be making its way on to other systems as well. A Switch port has been confirmed and is expected to be coming this summer, as well as one for Xbox consoles.
