Gabrielle Union recreates one of her iconic scenes as Chastity from 10 Things I Hate About You with her stepdaughter, Zaya Wade. In recent days, Union has received lots of attention after getting fired from America's Got Talent after she called out the show for allegedly having a racist and toxic set. Before this controversial set of events, though, Union was best known for starring in a number of romantic comedies, such as She's All That, Bring It On, and 10 Things I Hate About You.
10 Things I Hate About You, a re-telling of Shakespeare's "Taming Of The Shrew," followed Kat (Julia Stiles) and Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik) – two high school sisters who are shackled by their father's extremely strict rules. Bianca is not allowed to have a boyfriend until Kat starts dating, too – an outcome that their father finds seemingly impossible given Kat's abrasive demeanor. New student, Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) wants to challenge this so he can date Bianca, so he pays Patrick Verona (the late Heath Ledger) to try and change Kat's mind about dating.
When watching 10 Things I Hate About You, it's hard to ignore the elements of the movie that are iconic to the 90s era of movie-making. Some of the characteristics of the movie that are tangibly 90s-esque, include the chunky hair accessories, the pop-punk soundtrack, and the corny jokes. Yesterday on TikTok, Union recreated one of those iconic corny jokes from 10 Things, and it is giving fans such 90s nostalgia. Continue below to see Union's video:
As seen above, Union recreated the scene with her stepdaughter, Zaya Wade, who mimics Bianca's tone and cadence almost perfectly. Similarly, Union sounds much like her character did when the movie came out 22 years ago, just like she did last week when she posted a recreation of a scene from Bring It On to the same TikTok account. Given the popularity of these nostalgia-inducing videos, there may be more posts in the future, either from Union or her other 10 Things cast members.
After 10 Things I Hate About You came out, many actors from the movie went on to earn prolific careers that are far from underwhelming, or even just "whelming." Before he passed, Ledger went on to star in blockbusters such as Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight. Gordon-Levitt has been featured in several dozen films and was just cast to play Jiminy Cricket in Disney's live-action Pinnochio. And the movie would even live on after ABC Family adopted the movie as a TV series, though that series fails to capture the essence of the 90s the way the movie did.
