Star of The Family Chantel Chantel Jimeno, née Everett, has been earning herself both praise and criticism this week. The reality star and nurse drew more mixed responses when she announced to her Instagram followers that she received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Chantel, who first appeared on season four of 90 Day Fiancé alongside her now-husband Pedro Jimeno, has had a busy February so far. The Atlanta beauty turned 30 on February 2 and celebrated by traveling to Cancun with close female friends. The well-documented trip earned the reality star both praise and criticism on Instagram. While some fans were quick to celebrate and praise Chantel, many also criticized her nonessential travel during a pandemic. Since Chantel is working as a nurse, many of her followers believed she should be setting a better example. The antics didn’t stop when Chantel returned to Atlanta. The 30-year-old continued her birthday escapades with Pedro and her family as she threw a catered family and friends dinner party. Adding a large gathering to her outside of the country traveling ultimately drew more criticism from fans.
In an apparent move to assuage her critics, Chantel posted to her Instagram account on February 7 that she received her second dose of one of the COVID-19 vaccines. She previously announced in January on her Instagram Story that she received the first dose. This time, Chantel uploaded a video of herself dressed in scrubs and a face mask while the vaccine was administered into her arm. She captioned the post, "Fully vaccinated reporting to the CDC for the public. You're welcome." While Chantel was seemingly hoping to quiet the people who said she was irresponsible, her post mostly had the opposite effect. The comments section was largely unimpressed with Chantel’s public vaccination. "Why are we welcome?" one commenter wrote. "My 75 yr old father still hasn't been able to get the vaccine. That sucks...but congrats." Others expressed similar sentiments about the nurse, claiming she was being performative with her post. "Yep-no bueno chantel. Can’t be a front line worker, and post like ur doing good. Stay home and get ur head right! For all us other frontline workers that really sacrifice.... plz girl," another commenter added. Some fans also felt as though Chantel was continuing to be irresponsible. "Being vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t still get COVID... especially when you aren’t following CDC guidelines by not wearing a mask and not social distancing," a follower wrote in a lengthy comment. "I get you’re excited, but please think before you post. When you are a celebrity, you have a higher standard to abide by... especially those celebrities that are in the health field..." Another fan cautioned the reality star about not traveling. "Although you're vaccinated you're still can infected other people if you contract the virus and don't keep social distancing," the commenter wrote. Overall, it seemed as though people had different ideas about the effectiveness of the vaccine, with some falsely believing it made Chantel immediately immune to the virus.
While Chantel had her fair share of critics, she also had some vocal supporters who were happy about her receiving the second vaccine. Many also added they were hoping to get their vaccine soon. She also had her fair share of healthcare workers chiming in that they had already received their vaccine. "Thanks Chantel for doing ur part by taking the vaccine! God Bless," a supportive fan wrote.
This isn’t the first time Chantel has drawn controversy. Many fans have accused the reality star of lying about not having plastic surgery. However, it appears that Chantel is telling the truth about not having a breast augmentation. Fans of the 30-year-old are waiting to see if she will return to the small screen for a potential third season of The Family Chantel on TLC.
