Roswell: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability | ScreenRant

On popular teen drama Roswell, viewers immediately loved main character Liz Parker (Shiri Appleby) and then quickly got to know her alien-human hybrid love interest Max Evans (Jason Behr). From Max's sister Isabel (Katherine Heigl) and their friend Michael (Brendan Fehr) to Liz's friends and the small town's residents, the characters were familiar to fans of the genre but they also stood out.

Just like the original series, the reboot Roswell, New Mexico has close friendships, and the spirit of the '90s show does live on. When thinking about the main characters of the '90s show Roswell, some are beloved by fans and others leave a lot to be desired.

10 Tess Harding

Tess (Emilie de Raven) is definitely the least likable character on Roswell, mostly because she mindwarped Alex and murdered him.

Tess always upset the other characters, from her role in Alex's tragic death to her desire to have Max's baby. She was cunning and determined to get her own way, and fans preferred seeing Max with Liz than Max and Tess together. While Tess did keep things interesting since she provided a lot of drama on the show, she wasn't a nice character.

9 Sheriff Jim Valenti

No one liked Sheriff Valenti (William Sadler) much as he had it in for any aliens hiding in Roswell. His dad was a laughing stock for swearing that aliens actually existed, and Valenti had a photo from the '50s of a dead body with a handprint. It was similar to the handprint that Max left on Liz when he saved her life in the pilot.

It wasn't too long before Valenti started showing kindness toward Max and his fellow aliens, but even so, there wasn't much to like about him. He should have been focused on keeping the town safe instead of going down too many rabbit holes.

8 Kyle Valenti

Sheriff Valenti's son Kyle (Nick Wechsler) was a bad boyfriend for Liz. The two dated at the start of the show and it was obvious that they had nothing in common besides living in the same small town.

Kyle wasn't very likable, especially not when he was seeing Liz. He complained when she was late and acted like it was a much bigger deal than it actually was, and he was a fairly normal and quiet character who didn't bring a lot to the show.

7 Kathleen Topolsky

Liz and Max thought that Kathleen Topolsky (Julie Benz) was keeping a secret when they met her in the first season, and they were right.

Since Kathleen was lying the entire time, pretending to be a substitute teacher, then a guidance counselor, when she was actually working for the FBI, there wasn't much reason to like her. When she met with the high school students to discuss their futures, she had a condescending tone that was a bit frustrating, as she asked the teens what their dreams were and then tried to figure out if that was realistic. She wrote down that Max "has secrets" and was a big threat to Max, Isabel, and Michael, especially since she went after Michael in season one. She wasn't a character who was missed.

6 Alex Whitman

Alex (Colin Hanks) was a loveable character who didn't deserve his fate. While his death seemed like a tragic accident at first, once everyone did some digging, they realized that Tess was behind his murder, as she manipulated him with her powers.

It was heartbreaking to mourn Alex, and while he wasn't as popular as Max, Isabel, Michael, Maria, and Liz, he still deserves some praise for being a good friend who tried to keep the mood light.

5 Isabel Evans

While Roswell didn't feature too many common teen drama storylines, Isabel was a relatable character who enjoyed her regular high school life.

More than the others, Isabel didn't want their alien cover blown because she liked being a social butterfly and she didn't want anything to jeopardize that. While Isabel could be self-centered, she was ultimately a good person who cared about Max and Michael and who just needed a bit of time before getting to know new people.

4 Michael Guerin

Michael might not be as lovable as Max, but he was a sympathetic character as soon as he was introduced. He had a chip on his shoulder and pain in his heart since his experience of an abusive foster care situation.

Max commented to Liz in season one that if Michael heard about something, he was going to act immediately, and he didn't enjoy sitting around and waiting for things to happen. Michael's "can do" attitude was interesting, and while he wondered if he should move away from Roswell, fans always wanted him to stay with the other characters.

3 Maria DeLuca

Majandra Delfino's Roswell character, Maria DeLuca was a compassionate friend and also a lot of fun to watch.

Maria had some of the best lines on the series, and she always cared about Liz, even when she wasn't sure if she wanted to be in on the secret of alien life in Roswell. Maria is one of the easiest characters to love, as she had a bubbly, vibrant personality that elevated every scene she was in. Fans always enjoyed watching her love life develop, as she and Michael fell for each other in the first season.

2 Max Evans

While Max Evans made mistakes while dating Liz, he was a kind, caring, compassionate alien-human hybrid who stole the attention whenever he was in the room.

Fans might not have been able to relate to Max's secret identity, but he was torn between his love for Liz and his interest in Tess, and he felt very burdened by his leadership role among the other aliens. He wanted to do the right thing and that often meant making hard choices, and it was hard not to feel sorry for him, as he just wanted everyone he loved to be happy.

1 Liz Parker

It makes sense that as the main character, Liz Parker would be the most likable. Whether hanging out with her best friend Maria or confessing to Max that her life felt "claustrophobic" because her parents owned the Crashdown Cafe, Liz was always honest, smart, and practical.

Liz was even a waitress in the reboot, and it was the perfect job for her, as she's polite, friendly, and enjoys helping others. It was impossible not to root for Liz to make her science dreams come true or find love with Max, despite all their obstacles.
