The Mandalorian: 10 Grogu Cosplay The Mandalorian Would Want To Protect

Cosplay culture has warmed up to The Mandalorian’s Grogu exactly like one would expect. The best part about this is that cosplayers are really stepping out of the box to re-imagine the character in their own ways that helps channel their signature vibes.

There are some tricky elements to acing a Baby Yoda cosplay because one has to think about prosthetics and makeup when it comes to playing non-human characters, but there’s also a very functional, non-gendered aspect to cosplaying Grogu that cosplayers seem to appreciate. Here are some of the best and most versatile Grogu cosplays:

10 Baby Grogu

Star Wars cosplayer Denise from Skeleton Key Cosplay dressed her adorable one and a half year old as Grogu. “I’m working on planning out a Din costume for my husband so these two can do a photoshoot (I have no control),” she joked on Instagram. And the general cuteness aside, the simplistic and earthy costume is a great curation. This one is a straightforward flap-over number with a basic cowl neck, and is basically a DIY version of Grogu’s camel-colored T jacket robe which features impeccable deconstructed seams. This is a much lighter, fun alternative that looks way better in pictures.

9 Easy Does It

There’s been a lot of conversation around how adult cosplayers should go about cosplaying Baby Yoda, but that’s the fun thing. Each cosplayer can play up their signature elements and take some interesting liberties. Cosplayer and photographer Crystal Rose is clearly having a lot of fun with her Grogu cosplay.

She opts for a functional shearling-collared belted jacket, a smokey emerald wig, and some Euphoria-style glitter makeup. Crystal is also a Tik-Tok star and her Grogu cosplay videos are quite the rage on the platform.

8 Grogu Power

Cosplayer Sage pulls out all the stops for her Grogu cosplay and it’s easily one of the most well-designed looks we’ve come across. She created this look for Halloween, and focused on some key aspects. The illusion eye makeup definitely gives her look a spacey vibe but the shearling cowl neck and the ears also help. “Here is my "mystery" Halloween costume (that most of you guessed) I think as someone who's spooky all year round, it's fun to do something non-spooky for Halloween, and honestly, what's not scary about a six-foot-tall baby yoda?” she wrote on Instagram.

7 Spot The Difference

Cosplayer Lisa Mancini re-imagines some aspects of the Grogu look and it totally works. The wig is a major point of focus for most Grogu cosplayers, since Grogu has no hair but then again, a bald patch is not an option for this styling.

And an ear muff cap could look too silly, unless it’s worn by toddlers. So going for a full-blown green wig is ideal because Grogu’s skin and head are the same color. Lisa also follows the same rule as she goes for a green long wig and matching face paint.

6 DIY Doers

Silly Thing Cosplay has the best inspirations for DIY Baby Yoda cosplay because not only does she elaborately share her creative process on Instagram but also shared a full tutorial for the look on her Etsy shop. Her Grogu ears, especially, are incredibly well-planned and the color-blocked ears were made with eva foam that she sourced from a prop shop. She also fashioned the shearling-lined dress, belt, pendant herself, and since she’s really meticulous with prop detailing, this DIY look is quite uncluttered and effortless.

5 Easy Breezy

Professional cosplayer Von puts a fun, spontaneous spin on her Grogu cosplay and the feminine styling is a great move for someone who wants to move away from the gender-neutral robes, especially for summer cosplays. The cosplayer picks a bouncy skater skirt with a voluminous lining and a wide belt for a fun high fashion twist to her costume.

The knee high socks, the structured high collar, and shearling boots are quite unexpected but totally works, thanks to the muted tonality of the ensemble.

4 Groovy Grogu

Dutch cosplayer Frost Cosplay is known for her elaborately set-up cosplays; her cosplays are usually impeccably designed and really versatile because she usually shoots them in multiple venues for social media. Her Christmas-sy Grogu cosplay is offering up all the festive cheer one may need. It’s really well-focused because it doesn’t introduce a lot of elements but sticks to some key aspects. The striking deep mint wig and the long A-line coat work really well and the quirky touches like the space macaron and the Santa hat are really great too.

3 Acing It

Cosplayer Isabelle is a total pro with Star Wars cosplays and has masterfully cosplayed Leia, Ahsoka, and Darth Vader. For her Grogu cosplay she does something really smart because she steers clear of ear caps or a winged headwear and instead goes for straightforward elf ears - which may sound like a odd fit since Grogu’s ears are green. But since she has a green wig and she gets all the other aspects right, the elf ears work really well. She also admits on Instagram that she uses photochromic lenses because she is sensitive to light but it helps her look as they give her large, spacey eyes.

2 May The Force Be With You

This cosplay by comic editor Phoebe Hedges proves that a Grogu cosplay can be exactly what one makes of it, and it really does have endless possibilities at least visually. It’s important to note that her cosplay is very low-effort, it uses some really basic elements to ace the look. Her cozy look uses a quirky, moss green wig which she bought on Amazon, is quite whimsical and although it’s not thematically accurate, it totally goes with her fluffy coat.

1 Knit Love

This all-knitted Grogu costume worn by baby Julian deserves all the love especially because it’s so brilliant and fun, and also opens up a lot of possibilities for re-processing chunky knits for DIY cosplay outfits. Julian’s mum sourced the costume from a Washington-based crocheter who made the three-piece number featuring a belted, hooded robe, chunky beanie ears and woolly booties. “My Baby Yoda. Lol he wasn’t feeling it at first. But his daddy said “The force is strong with this one, yes,” Julian’s mum wrote on Instagram.
