Michael Keaton's Batman Is Rosario Dawson's Favorite Dark Knight

Michael Keaton’s Batman is Rosario Dawson’s favorite version of the character. With no shortage of famous faces to don the cape and cowl, Keaton is one of the most iconic, starring in the Tim Burton-directed picture back in 1989. He would reprise the role in Burton’s 1992 sequel, Batman Returns, before turning the character over to Val Kilmer in 1995’s Batman Forever, and directorial duties shifting to Joel Schumacher. Over the next two and half decades the portrayal of the Bat and his alter-ego, Bruce Wayne, would be cast and recast several more times with the latest being Robert Pattinson in the upcoming The Batman.

Recently news broke suggesting that Keaton would be returning as the full time, franchise Batman for the DCEU, based on a misconstrued quote from DC Films President, Walter Hamada. The New York Times reported Hamada saying — “ ... Warner Bros. will have two different film sagas involving Batman — played by two different actors — running at the same time.” With Keaton already confirmed to be appearing as Batman in the new film The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti, many fans took that to mean Keaton was slated to be Batman for future films since Pattinson’s stand-alone, The Batman, is reportedly outside the current shared film universe. Brooks Barnes, the writer of the New York Times article, later clarified that Hamada was only referring to those 2 specific films — The Flash and The Batman, but not before scores of Keaton fans excitedly got their hopes up, imagining what might be.

As one of those Keaton diehards, Dawson (The Mandalorian) took to Twitter expressing appreciation for her favorite Batman. Her post is a forwarded video clip of Keaton’s Batman being summoned by the bat-signal. Dawson captions it — “My forever BATMAN”. You can check out her tweet below:

The Arrowverse has already introduced “multiple varying realities” to the live-action cannon with 2019’s mega-crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths. In it fans got to see not only the film universe’s version of the Flash, aka Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, meet Grant Gustin’s Flash from the CW TV show, but it also confirmed the existence of Keaton’s Batman continuity, with Robert Wuhl’s return as reporter Alexander Knox existing within “Earth-89”. Crisis ended with a unification of many of the varying earths into one “Earth-Prime”, creating lasting ramifications for the Arrowverse on television, but it has yet to be revealed how that will affect the DCEU films.

Born in 1979, Dawson was 10 years old when Keaton first appeared as Batman, and this was when rabid fans would line up in front of movie theaters for days in advance to procure good seats for blockbuster films. Dawson’s love and longtime connection to the character is potentially what led her to voice Wonder Woman in multiple animated Justice League features, Batgirl in The LEGO Batman Movie, and star in the film Sin City, from acclaimed Batman writer, Frank Miller. Whether she herself camped out on ticket lines back in those days, Dawson is undoubtedly a product of that era, it’s craze, and it’s fervor for Keaton’s Batman, which likely fuels her undying support for him to this day.
