Mark Hamill Speechless Over Mandalorian Co-Star’s Praise

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for The Mandalorian season two finale, "Chapter 16: The Rescue."

Mark Hamill speechless over The Mandalorian's co-star's praise. Hamill reprised his iconic role as Luke Skywalker for The Mandalorian season 2 finale, titled "Chapter 16: The Rescue." Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) was another fan-favorite Star Wars character who made a surprise return in The Mandalorian season 2, after being left for dead in the season one episode, "Chapter 5: The Gunslinger."

Fennec owed a debt to Boba Fett. Fett saved Fennec's life with cybernetics after being shot in season one. As a result, Fennec considered herself to be in service to Fett. The pair teamed to get Fett's armor back from Din Djarin in, "Chapter 14: The Tragedy." When Grogu was kidnapped by Dark Troopers on the planet Tython, Fett and Fennec swore to Djarin that they would help save him because Fett got his armor back. Thanks to this chain of events, Fennec ended up on the bridge of Moff Gideon's ship, where she witnessed the arrival of Luke Skywalker, who had answered Grogu's Force call on Tython and requested to take Grogu for Jedi training. Skywalker was played by none other than Mark Hamill himself, thanks to CGI de-aging.

Wen relayed her joy about Hamill's appearance in The Mandalorian on her Twitter page. The actress said she had always been inspired by Luke Skywalker and Hamill as a child and an adult, and that sharing a scene with Hamill was one of the highlights of her life. Hamill responded in kind, saying that Wen's praise left him speechless.

Although Luke and Fennec didn't get a chance to interact in the actual episode, Hamill's response to Wen's praise is a sweet acknowledgment of their shared scene. After all, Wen herself is also known for portraying an iconic character, having voiced Mulan in the classic 1998 Disney animated film Mulan. Wen did a great job portraying Fennec Shand, and it was exciting to see her character return in the teaser for The Book of Boba Fett

Although the possibility of Luke Skywalker's character returning in upcoming seasons of The Mandalorian has yet to be confirmed, it would be really interesting to have Luke and Fennec actually interact in some manner. Perhaps Fennec could berate Luke for having a friend who nearly killed Fett by sending him straight into a Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi? It certainly would make sense that Fett might still be bitter about that if Fett and Fennec do end up running into Luke again somehow.

Although actual plot details about season three and onwards for The Mandalorian remain scarce, it was nice to see Hamill and Wen sharing their admiration of each other on social media. With so many new Star Wars shows in the works for Disney Plus (and the confirmation of Fennec Shand's appearance in The Bad Batch), the potential for an interaction between Fennec and Luke seems all but inevitable. Hopefull, a future episode of The Mandalorian will feature a return of these two fan-favorite characters talking to each other in a way that makes sense and moves the story along.
