Friends: 10 Strange Things About The Show That Can't Be Forgotten

Friends is one of the most legendary sitcoms of all time, and the fact that the show's finale is the fifth-most watched finale in series history is a testament to its massive popularity. All the characters of the show have become mainstays of pop culture, with fans still comparing themselves to them, even now.

Of course, the celebrated status of Friends doesn't mean that the show isn't privy to some occasional mistakes, goof-ups, and everything else along the same lines. Keeping this in mind, these instances on the show are just so strange and off-beat that even the most ardent fans can't ignore them, no matter how hard they try.

10 Ross Outright Lies About The People He's Slept With Before The Show

Near the start of the show, it was pretty clearly implied that the only person that Ross had slept with up to that point was Carol. However, later episodes reveal that Ross had other embarrassing conquests as well, in the form of a cleaning lady and the high school librarian, which is rather inconsistent with what was revealed before.

Whether this is an oversight in the show's writing or Ross just lying about his past conquests, it's more than a little confusing to fans who have been paying attention.

9 Rachel Built A Successful Career With Little To No Qualifications

The idea of leaving your well-to-do family and struggling to stand on your own two feet is a noble goal that anyone can sympathize with, but the manner in which Rachel excels in doing so is rather hard to believe.

She manages to become a world-beater in the world of fashion with little to no experience in the field, which is rather hard to believe.

8 Joey Seems Extremely Dumb For Someone Who's A Womanizer

The foremost qualities that one would associate with a ladies' man are a smooth tongue and the ability to quickly think under pressure — both things that hard to picture with regards to Joey and his behavior.

However, the series is pretty adamant about the fact that he can actually impress women with ease without backing up this fact in a substantial manner.

7 Phoebe & Rachel Were Rather Mean About Monica Dating Chandler

The idea of two people within a friend group dating should be something that the mutual friends ideally support, but the manner in which Phoebe and Rachel treat this development is anything but.

They relentlessly tease Monica about the fact that she's dating Chandler and rarely make her feel comfortable about it during the initial run of their relationship, which is uncharacteristically mean on their part.

6 Ursula Sleeping With Phoebe's Boyfriend Is Extremely Disturbing

While it might be funny to think about Ursula stealing Phoebe's high school boyfriend by sleeping with him and pretending to be her twin sister, the implications of this are quite dire.

For starters, the fact that a guy thought he was sleeping with his girlfriend, only for it to be a completely different person, is extremely disturbing to imagine (not to mention criminal) and might make people think twice before laughing at a seemingly "harmless" joke.

5 It's Weird How No One Else Sits On The Central Perk Couch

The Central Perk couch is one of the most legendary fictional pieces of furniture in one of the most legendary fictional coffee shops of all time. It's also a very alluring seat in a shop that should ideally be full all the time, and yet, the gang has no problem grabbing a seat here every single time.

Barring one or two gags where their seat was taken, the majority of the show has the gang grabbing the highly coveted spot with little to no problem whatsoever.

4 Monica's Statement About Having A Cat Allergy Seems Highly Suspect

Monica states at one point in season 2 that she has an allergy to cat hair even though it was established in the episode prior that she had a pet cat as a child!

Unless her allergies developed after this event or her pet cat made Monica realize how severe her allergy really was, there is clearly a mix-up here in terms of Monica's allergies and their timeline.

3 It's Unclear As To Whether Ross Or Chandler Would Win In A Fight Against Each Other

When it comes to Ross and Chandler getting into a fight, it seems that the group can't make up their mind about who would win. In the first part of the episode, where Chandler and Monica get married, Ross tells Chandler that he would beat him up if he ever hurt Monica, only for the rest of the group to laugh at him.

However, when Chandler also talks about the same thing, later on, the group dismisses him as well. The jury is out as to who would come out on top, but it seems like the characters don't know either.

2 Ross Eats Ice Cream With Elizabeth Even After Stating That He Hates It

Ross mentions at one point in the show that he can't have ice cream because of his sensitive teeth, but it seems that this sensitivity is completely thrown out of the window when it comes to Elizabeth.

After all, there's a shot of him and Elizabeth eating ice cream when they are dating, with Ross having no problems with his teeth at any point.

1 Joey & Rachel Dating Was Just A Complete Waste Of Time

One of the worst subplots on the entire show that is almost universally reviled is when Joey and Rachel decided to get in a relationship — a move that was quite confusing given their complete lack of chemistry.

The fact that this relationship barely lasts for a few episodes is a testament to its sheer stupidity in the first place, and it was thankfully quickly abandoned.
