Disneyland: Best Magical Pixar Pier Concept Art You Have To See

In 2018, Disney's California Adventure at Disneyland finished its massive renovation of Paradise Pier, transforming it into Pixar Pier. The new part of the park brings all of Pixar's classic blockbusters to life, and many guests say it's a great improvement on the original California-themed section of the park.

Recently, the Disney Imagineers concept art used to create Pixar Pier has been circulating, proving the innovation and talent of the Disney team. Here are 10 concept images of the park that you have to see.

10 Pixar Pier Is Colorful & Bold

The aerial artwork by the Imagineers shows that their theme for the new Pixar Pier included bold colors, with a motif centering around the three primary colors - red, blue, and yellow - as they the most eyecatching.

This is also a nod to many Pixar films that heavily use primary colors, such as the use of reds in The Incredibles and for Lightning McQueen, the use of yellow in Woody and Jessie's outfits, and the use of blue throughout Finding Nemo.

9 Jessie's Critter Carousel

As all Toy Story fans will remember, Jessie was introduced in the sequel as one of the characters from Woody's Roundup, the TV show that the Woody doll was modeled on.

The carousel at Pixar Pier brings all the animals and critters from the show to life and also helps place Jessie as one of Pixar's most prominent characters. After all, she was the first major female character in the Toy Story universe.

8 The Incredible's Neighborhood

One of the most noticeable changes to Paradise Pier was the addition of the stylish Incredibles Neighborhood, which is modeled in the 1950s contemporary style, just like the movies.

The Incredibles also served as the basis for the revamped California Screamin' rollercoaster, which is now called the Incredicoaster, and it follows the Parr family as they hunt down their wild child, Jack-Jack.

7 The Incredicoaster

While California Screamin' was a truly iconic and thrilling ride in the California Adventure park, it lacked the intricate theme and story that Disney rides are famous for. Luckily, the switch to the Incredicaoster changed this.

Voices and music were added to the rollercoaster's on-car speaker system, and projections, characters, and theming were added throughout the ride to build the story. On the coaster, you soar through the park following The Incredibles as they use their powers to search for Jack-Jack.

6 The Promenade

The original theme of California Adventure's Paradise Pier was that of a seaside amusement park at the turn of the 20th century. The new Pixar Pier honors this tradition with a classic promenade-themed area filled with carnival games, snack stalls, photo booths, and midway rides.

In the evenings, the area dazzles with thousands of lights and live music. Best of all, the Incredicoaster soars right over the promenade, giving guests up-close views of the coaster in action.

5 Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind

Based on the massive 2015 hit, Inside Out, the Emotional Whirlwind ride combines the figurative with the literal. The movie is about the wild ride our emotions take us on and the ride is, quite literally, a wild ride.

Inside Out is also one of the newest franchises to be present at a Disney park, with many of the other rides being based on characters and franchises that were introduced to audiences in the 90s and 2000s.

4 Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff

Also coming from the Inside Out universe is Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff. Bing Bong was both Inside Out's comedic relief, and also one of the film's most poignant characters. The confectionary pays tribute to California Adventure's original theme of being a classic boardwalk amusement park and it sells retro delights, like saltwater taffy and rainbow cotton candy.

It also offers movie-themed goodies, like caramel apples frosted to look like Pixar characters. The interior of the store is decked out to create the feeling of walking right into a Pixar movie.

3 The Pixar Pal-A-Round

One of the most interesting aspects of Pixar Pier is that the Imagineers decided to leave Mickey's face on the park's massive Ferris wheel, which is now called the Pixar Pal-A-Round. One of the main ideas for California Adventure was to be different from Disneyland and to market it to a slightly older audience. Luckily, the designers incorporated a nod to the mouse that made it all possible by leaving his face on the Ferris wheel.

Each car of the Pal-A-Round, however, has the image of a classic Pixar character, like Remy from Ratatouille, Russell from Up, and Nemo from Finding Nemo.

2 The Adorable Snowman's Frosted Treats

In the original Monsters Inc., the abominable snowman turns out to be a gentle giant, frustrated with his fearsome reputation. He even says, "Abominable! Can you believe that? Do I look abominable to you? Why can't they call me the Adorable Snowman ... or the Agreeable Snowman, for crying out loud? I'm a nice guy.

Luckily, the Disney Imagineers decided to give the Snowman his own ice cream shop that sells chocolate and vanilla ice cream, along with lemon sorbet.

1 Firework Shows To Celebrate Pixar

Leading up to the opening of Pixar Pier, the Disney Imagineers also dreamed up lavish firework displays and grand parades. They featured light shows, digital Pixar characters, and live performers. The shows even had their very own soundtracks.

The events featured Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Lightning McQueen, and more. Aside from the Pixar events, Disneyland and Walt Disney World are renowned for their firework shows and parades, which take place daily at the parks.
