The voice actor behind Cyberpunk 2077’s Jackie Wells has suggested a DLC based around his character in the future. Since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in December, the game has been making headlines on an almost daily basis, and not in a good way. Its release has been a shambles, with its developer CD Projekt Red now facing multiple lawsuits and a potential buyout due to the game’s poor launch. One area that Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to garner praise for, however, is its range of characters. With several romance options and narratives to choose from in Cyberpunk 2077, players will be able to engage with a diverse selection of NPCs during their playthrough, from police officers to politicians to dolls.
One character that players will always meet though, regardless of their chosen lifepath within Cyberpunk 2077, is that of Jackie Welles. Jackie becomes V’s partner early on in Cyberpunk 2077 and the two strike up a firm friendship during the opening narratives. Together, the duo takes on several missions across Night City, with the hopes of making it big. Sadly for Jackie though, these dreams are never realized, as he is fatally wounded during a botched heist for Evelyn Parker.
And yet, despite his fate, Jackie’s voice actor Jason Hightower has suggested a Jackie Welles DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 in the future. Talking to exbee.co.uk, Hightower stated that, “we could (make a) DLC upload of Jackie Welles if anyone wanted it… for those who want Jackie in their ear when they do their missions.” While many would welcome Jackie’s return, this is, of course, a very hypothetical idea from Hightower. If the character of Jackie was to come back as an upload, similar to that of Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand, it would have to involve an incredibly contrived backstory to make it even remotely plausible.
While there are still plans for a Cyberpunk 2077 DLC in the future, CD Projekt Red has pushed its release back in order to focus its efforts on the most important fixes and updates required in the game itself. The original plan from CDPR implied that a free DLC was going to be available for gamers in early 2021. According to a new roadmap from CDPR however, this is unlikely to materialize until the latter half of 2021 at the earliest.
Given how much work needs to be done on Cyberpunk 2077 to get the game up to an acceptable standard for its players, delaying any upcoming DLCs is certainly a wise move from CDPR. Whether or not Jackie Welles will make an unexpected return is anyone’s guess, but before any new content comes out for Cyberpunk 2077 the developers really need to sort out what went wrong, and why.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PS4 (retail-only), Xbox One, Stadia, and PC, and it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
