Since The Bachelor and The Bachelorette has been on the air, there have been several contestants who have called out the producers publicly.
The job of the producers is to create this reality TV show filled with love and drama so the viewers will come back to watch it every week. Sometimes this comes at the expense of the contestants and even the lead. At first many past contestants never spoke out about it, but now members of Bachelor Nation are revealing just how manipulative the producers can be. Here are a few members of Bachelor Nation who have called out the producers in the most memorable and shocking ways.
Katie appeared on Colton Underwood's season of The Bachelor and later on Bachelor in Paradise where she became engaged to repeat Bachelor franchise contestant Chris Bukowski. When she appeared on the reunion show for BIP season 6, Katie was held in a trailer for six hours by producers before bringing her on stage. They even held onto her engagement ring and when she asked for it back they said no. The producers said to her that they will bring it out to her when it is necessary. She told Olivia Caridi, the host of the Mouthing Off podcast, she nearly cried when Chris Harrison said to her "I see you're not wearing your ring." Katie wishes she could have said that it wasn't her choice to not have the ring on. The producers tried to craft a storyline that wasn't actually happening.
Way before Clare was The Bachelorette, she appeared on several Bachelor franchise shows, including The Bachelor, BIP and Bachelor Winter Games. After the episode from Juan Pablo's season, when it looked like the pair had sex in the ocean, Clare repeatedly denied anything of that nature happened. A few years later, Clare appeared on BIP and called out producers for editing some of her scenes to look like she was talking to a raccoon. Since Clare has been on the show, producers have always tried to make her look like a fool. She finally had enough this year when producers edited her season of The Bachelorette to focus on how obsessed she was with Dale Moss, her now-fiancé. Following these episodes, Clare began to liked a series of tweets blaming the producers for the Dale-centric storylines.
One of the most shocking producer call-outs is definitely Kelley Flanagan from Peter Weber's season of The Bachelor. She revealed on an episode of the “Almost Famous” podcast with Ashley Iaconetti and Ben Higgins that producers prevented her from forming a relationship with Peter while they were filming. "I could tell a hundred percent that like producers were in his head,” Kelley told the hosts. "He had this, like, demeanor toward me that was so pissed off and I was looking at him, like, ‘What the hell were you told?’ because nothing happened here for you to have this attitude." Kelley knew right away Peter was being fed lies and admitted that producers did not allow her to see him. She even revealed that producers locked her in a closet for three hours, preventing her from seeing Peter. She also added that producers tend to push people towards the lead and others are pushed away. Chris Harrison was informed by what Kelley had said and gave her a call to get the facts straight, “She’s a smart girl who I think is used to getting what she wants, and she didn’t get that time with Peter. You’re not in a closet. It’s in a room, and sometimes it takes hours."
