KUWTK: Khloé Kardashian Reflects On Time As Nicole Richie’s Assistant

Before Keeping Up With the Kardashians was a reality TV staple, Khloé Kardashian was Nicole Richie’s assistant. During a recent podcast interview, Khloé recalled working with Nicole and other early moments in her career.

In the early 2000s, Nicole was one of the stars of The Simple Life alongside her best friend at the time, Paris Hilton. During this era, Paris and Nicole were two of the most iconic media personalities. It’s no surprise the Kardashian-Jenner clan got close to these icons because they too wanted to become ultra-famous one day. Kim Kardashian is well-known for her friendship with Paris during her early career. Fans and Kim herself recognize that Paris helped her rise to stardom. But a lesser-known fact about the Keeping Up With the Kardashians family is that Khloé used to be Nicole’s assistant. In the early days of her career, Nicole had an influence on Khloé.

Khloé talked about her experience as Nicole’s assistant during an appearance on the Emergency Contact podcast (via People). The recording started off on a playful note when Khloé recalled how she met co-host, Simon Huck. “I was Nicole Richie's assistant and you were Jonathan Cheban's assistant and we met five faces ago,” the KUWTK star joked, referencing her cosmetic procedures. Khloé mentioned that she didn’t work for Richie for a long time. “I went to school with her. She was one of my best friends growing up and we were just really, really close and then when she started doing Simple Life — I think it was after Simple Life — she just needed some help and I just needed a job,” Khloé explained.

When the Kardashian-Jenner reality TV show initially aired, their family didn’t expect the show to be successful. “We were told we were a show filler and to not get comfortable. There wasn't any pressure because it was like, they don't think we're gonna last, so let's have fun with it,” Khloé recalled. The Good American founder also reminisced the fact that she never thought she would appear on reality TV, let alone become famous from it, even when she was Nicole’s assistant. As fans know, the KUWTK show ended up being a major success, particularly after season three. Around that time, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian did their own spinoff reality TV show called Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami. Khloé mentioned her fame began to rise at that point in time, “It was the first time we couldn't really go a lot of places and it was more paparazzi and fans.”

Famous people are often born, influenced, and created by celebrities before them. The Kardashian-Jenner family is no exception. They strategically became close to successful socialites in order to become more relevant themselves. While some might find this manipulative, or perhaps even cunning, that’s the reality of show biz. It’s rare for anyone to be entirely self-made. When you look back on Khloé's career, you can see how she was affected by Nicole. Even though Keeping Up With the Kardashians is ending, Khloé is excited about the next chapter of her life. Maybe it’s her turn to influence a rising star, but who will that be?
