Popular Star Wars writer Charles Soule has just revealed some pretty cool news for his fans courtesy of his newsletter, which has a lot to do with his work on the High Republic publication initiative from Lucasfilm Publishing. According to Soule, the project of depicting the High Republic era will be much bigger than fans might have previously thought, and Soule's own work will be expanding as well.
The High Republic initiative was first announced back in February of 2020, with an array of books and comics announced, all of them set in this new era of the Star Wars universe, 200 years before Star War: The Phantom Menace. Soule will be writing Light of the Jedi, an adult novel that will arguably serve as the centerpiece of the collection of titles coming from several different writers for a variety of different age demographics. While the initiative has since been pushed back to early 2021, due to the events of the global pandemic, that hasn't stopped new bits of information from being revealed as fans get closer and closer to the release day.
For example, Charles Soule himself is incredibly excited for people to see what he has in store in his upcoming book and how big the High Republic will truly be starting next year. In his newsletter, Charles Soule shared bonus information with subscribers, saying:
... This is all stuff you know - here's something you don't: I'm not done with this era of Star Wars by a long shot. The High Republic is planned as a multi-year mega-story, and I intend to be part of it. I've already got a few projects set for it, with more to come, I'm sure. The High Republic is a very cool space in which to play, and think I have some great stories to tell.
This is some pretty exciting news for Star Wars fans and Soule fans alike. It confirms that Soule will be doing more projects in this particular Star Wars era beyond what's already been announced as well as the work he's currently doing on Marvel's flagship Star Wars comic series. He also reaffirms reports that the High Republic will be a multi-year initiative. This means that what is already known to be coming in 2021 is only the first wave. This seems to indicate the Lucusfilm is pretty confident that fans are going to like what's coming for this new, previously unseen period in the Star Wars universe. Likewise, the art and previews that have been teased have been generating a lot of positive buzz.
All that being said: 2021 can't come fast enough. Many fans are desperate to get these Star Wars books and comics in their hands and explore the mysteries of the High Republic as soon as possible. It's a really good sign that so many creators involved in this project have been so vocal about their excitement for these books to be released. Unfortunately, fans will just have to wait a few months more.
