DOOM Eternal Running On RTX 3080 Makes 2080 Ti Look Last-Gen

In a new comparison video put out by Nvidia on the occasion of the announcement of their new RTX 30 series graphics cards, DOOMom Eternal is put through its paces and comes out smelling like a rose. Earlier this week, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang live-streamed from his kitchen for an official unveiling of three new graphics cards. Unlike last year's 2000 series, the 3000 series was touted as a step forward in both power and affordability, with the lower end $500 RTX 3070 outpacing cards that cost over $1000 last time around. When combined with an over the top presentation involving graphics cards appearing from ovens, it was an entertaining and informative presentation.

Throughout the show, Nvidia didn't just talk up their card's newfound power. The company has a new suite of apps and utilities that will also empower gamers and content producers in exciting new ways. One such technology is a new streaming program that automatically captures players from a webcam and isolates them, allowing for blurred backgrounds and green screen effects with no additional setup required. There was also better integration with G-Sync monitors and eSports performance boosters discussed, but the focus often came back to the power the cards will bring to new and existing games alike.

Following the event, Nvidia has come out with several official comparison videos showcasing the difference between their 20 and 30 series cards. The showcase of iD Software's DOOM Eternal gives players an idea of how several memorable moments from the March release will play out once they install this new beast of a graphics card. Don't be fooled if things look the same when just hitting play, as YouTube has likely downshifted the video below 4K, making the difference indecipherable. Once pumped up in the settings, it's plain to see graphics that are far beyond what is capable with existing hardware.

If an upgraded version of DOOM Eternal isn't impressive enough, Nvidia has also uploaded official trailers for Cyberpunk 2077Watch Dogs Legion, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Although these games aren't released as of yet, they all take advantage of some of the 30 series cards more advanced features, including loads of ray tracing. As for other comparisons of completed games, it's likely Nvidia will continue to produce similar trailers in the coming days before the cards roll out and everyone can make comparisons of their own.

The 3080 and its slightly weaker cousins devour top of the line games like DOOM Eternal, and that will hopefully calm some fears about the next generation not being technologically superior to what gamers have now. This new breed of card is comparable to what will be releasing inside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday. Microsoft has already started work with Nvidia and other card makers to replicate the next Xbox's unique SSD storage solution, an upgrade vector many PC gamers will start thinking about in the coming months for sure. If both next-generation consoles can produce results like this, it will be an interesting next few years in the world of video games indeed.
