It's pretty hard not to love Bill Murray. Not only does he seem like one of the most fun people on Earth off-screen, but his on-screen career has been nothing short of iconic. He is a soulful, hilarious, and engrossing actor who has helped to create some of the most interesting film characters of all time.
While Murray brings his own special spark to each of these roles, he has created enough characters that people of all personalities can relate to at least one. Looking at the different zodiacs, each one of them can match up to one of Murray's famous roles.
12 Aries - Steve Zissou (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou)
In The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Murray plays the titular ocean explorer. Steve is a man who has a lot of passion for what he does even if his knowledge of the ocean and its creatures is limited.
Still, Steve leads his team of explorers on dangerous missions which suggests his Aries personality. He can be a moody and immature man and has been known lose his cool, but he is brave and determined in his mission and his role as a leader.
11 Taurus - Raleigh St. Clair (The Royal Tenenbaums)
Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums explores a family of accomplished yet dysfunction geniuses and the various people in their inner circle. Raleigh St. Claire is the husband of the adopted daughter Margot Tenenbaum.
Though he might seem a bit dull, Raleigh's Taurus personality shows all of his positive qualities. He is reliable and practical in every aspect of his life. He is patient with his wife and offers her a stable relationship, which she seems uninterested in.
10 Gemini - Bob Wiley (What About Bob?)
Bob Wiley from What About Bob? is a troubled man, yet he is impossible for most people not to love. He is so consumed by his personal issues that he decides to crash his psychiatrist's family vacation in order to continue their sessions.
Many of Bob's issues spring from the kind of areas Geminis tend to dislike. His life is ruled by anxiety and he is indecisive, needing to be guided by others. However, he also learns quickly and makes great strides.
9 Cancer - Phil Connors (Groundhog Day)
Phil Connors goes through quite a big character arc throughout his journey in Groundhog Day. Though he starts out as an unlikable man, he soon becomes less selfish and more caring. Both aspects of this personality mirror the Cancer type.
Before finding himself caught in a time loop, Phil is a pessimistic and moody man. He even tries to use the time loop to manipulate others. Over time, he learns to become more helpful to those around him.
8 Leo - Frank Cross (Scrooged)
Like Phil Connors in Groundhog Day, Frank Cross from Scrooged is an awful guy who has to learn to become better. As a powerful television executive, Frank is arrogant, stubborn, and self-centered, which are some of Leos' worst qualities.
Frank's negative ways soon change as he is shown the true meaning of Christmas. He becomes more passionate about the holidays and the people in his life, embracing the warm-hearted and cheerful vibe of the season.
7 Virgo - Bunny Breckinridge (Ed Wood)
In Ed Wood, Johnny Depp plays the titular filmmaker from the 1950s who was known as one of the worst directors of all time. He somehow convinced his friends to participate in his ridiculous films, including Bunny Breckinridge.
Bunny is a typical Virgo, especially with his shy personality. It seems like the last place he would want to be is in front of a camera, yet he continues to put himself in these situations out of loyalty to his friend Ed.
6 Libra - Herman Blume (Rushmore)
In Murray's first collaboration with Wes Anderson, he plays Herman Blume in the coming-of-age comedy, Rushmore. Blume is an eccentric character despite seeming laid-back most of the time, but he is clearly a Libra.
He is an intelligent man but also prone to self-pity. After falling in love with the same woman, Blume forms a rivalry with a high school kid named Max. Though he holds that grudge strongly, Blume is also capable of forgiving Max.
5 Scorpio - Baloo (The Jungle Book)
Disney's live-action remake of their classic story The Jungle Book explores the adventures of Mowgli, a young human boy who lives in the jungle with all the animals. His best friend of all the creatures is the bear named Baloo.
As with most Scorpios, Baloo is resourceful, always finding a meal in the jungle. Though a bit lazy, he is also extremely brave and a true friend to Mowgli whenever he needs him.
4 Sagittarius - Badger (Fantastic Mr. Fox)
In another animal-centric adventure, the stop-motion animated Fantastic Mr. Fox follows a fox who is forced to choose between his thrilling life as a thief and his obligations as a family man. Badger is one of Fox's closest friends and a clear Sagittarius.
Badger is a level-headed guy who is not much of a leader but is intelligent nonetheless. He does not go in for Fox's crazy schemes and does his best to keep their lives grounded and rational.
3 Capricorn - Vincent (St. Vincent)
One of Murray's most underrated roles is in the comedy St. Vincent, in which he plays a cranky veteran who develops an unlikely friendship with a neighbor boy. Soon, Vincent's bad behavior rubs off on the youngster.
Vincent's pessimistic outlook on the world feels similar to some aspects of Capricorns. Vincent likes to keep things simple but he is also quite brash with how he talks to people and seems to have little patience for the world around him despite having a big heart underneath it all.
2 Aquarius - Bob Harris (Lost in Translation)
Murray received an Oscar nomination for his fine performance as Bob Harris in Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation. Bob is a famous actor who takes a job filming a commercial in Japan. His sad yet hopeful attitude seems to mirror that of the Aquarius.
Bob is initially miserable at the boredom and loneliness of his life, but he comes alive when he meets a fellow lonely tourist. Together, these two enjoy meaningful conversations and quality time.
1 Pisces - Jeff Slater (Tootsie)
Though Dustin Hoffman is the star of the hilarious comedy Tootsie, Murray steals the show with his deadpan performance as Hoffman's friend, Jeff Slater. He is a playwright with a hilarious view of the world.
Jeff is creative, intellectual, and wise, but like a Pisces, doesn't come off as too pompous because it sort of seems like he doesn't really care. He is somewhat disconnected from the world, which makes his observations all the more fun.
