HBO Max has debuted the trailer for Unpregnant, a movie about a young woman who drives across the country when faced with a tough decision about her unexpected pregnancy. HBO Max and WarnerMax's Unpregnant was adapted from a novel by authors Ted Caplan (The Greatest Showman) and Jenni Hendriks (How I Met Your Mother). The movie is directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Valley Girl, The Mindy Project). Additionally, Goldenberg wrote the screenplay alongside the authors, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Someone Great), and William Parker.
The Unpregnant trailer, released on HBO Max's YouTube page, introduces audiences to Veronica, who is portrayed by Haley Lu Richardson. Veronica is a 17-year-old, college-bound student who receives the shock of a lifetime when she finds out she's pregnant. With nowhere else to turn or anyone she feels she can confide in, she reconnects with her former best friend, Bailey, portrayed by Barbie Ferreira. In trying to make this difficult decision, she ends up on a road trip to New Mexico with Bailey in a stolen car, as the two reconnect as friends.
Based on the trailer and the information from HBO Max, the film will blend together grounded human emotion with humor. Even with heavier moments, there seems to be plenty of heart and levity included throughout the movie. The journey to adulthood and friendships will be explored as well. Unpregnant also stars Alex MacNicoll, Breckin Meyer, Giancarlo Esposito, Sugar Lyn Beard, Betty Who, Mary McCormack, Denny Love, Ramona Young, and Kara Royster. The movie is set to premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, September 10.
