Flash & More Arrowverse Heroes Wear Face Masks In New Posters

New posters featuring The Flash and other heroes of the Arrowverse encourage viewers to follow safety guidelines and wear a mask. Like many other TV series, The CW's DC shows have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Some, including SupergirlBatwoman, and The Flash, had to stop filming in March ahead of their finales. As a result, each show finished its season with fewer episodes than originally ordered. This forced some behind-the-scenes scrambling, though each series still managed to turn out a fairly effective finale, especially Batwoman. Other Arrowverse shows, like Legends of Tomorrow, had already wrapped filming by the time the coronavirus hit Hollywood.

Unfortunately, the pandemic will affect the upcoming seasons of the DC series as well. The CW is holing its entire Arrowverse lineup for 2021, which will give the network a little leeway in safely starting production again. Most of the returning shows, as well as the new series Superman & Lois, will premiere in January. However, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl will be held for midseason. Beyond the delayed starts, the Arrowverse will also look a little different next season with flagship series Arrow no longer around and a new Batwoman in charge of Gotham.

Even though the Arrowverse's return is a long way off, The CW has already begun promoting it via a series of newly released posters. However, instead of focusing solely on the return dates, the powerful images convey the importance of mask wearing during the pandemic. All of the Arrowverse heroes, minus Batwoman, wear face coverings, with the posters' taglines proclaiming "Real heroes wear masks." Check out the posters, via TVLine, below:

The posters are incredibly effective in that they successfully keep the Arrowverse on viewers' minds while doing the incredibly important work of promoting safety guidelines. They also welcome Stargirl and Black Lightning into the fold, as both series were confirmed to be a part of the Arrowverse during last seasons's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Including Beebo alongside Captain Sara Lance is a stroke of genius Legends of Tomorrow fans will appreciate, as the cuddly creature has become the show's unofficial mascot.

It's easy to understate the significance of this campaign or to see it solely as a marketing ploy for The CW. However, the posters could have a genuine effect on some viewers who haven't yet taken mask wearing seriously. Fans often try to embody the heroes they see onscreen, including those of the Arrowverse. Seeing Supergirl, The Flash, and others not only make mask wearing look cool but even heroic could make all the difference.
