Warner Bros. confirms the first official trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Dune will arrive online in September. As one of the few major blockbusters still scheduled for 2020, Dune is set to arrive on a wave of high expectations. This is just the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel, and fans are hoping it will turn out better than previous iterations, like David Lynch's 1984 film. Villeneuve's star-studded cast has certainly helped soothe fans' worries, as it includes Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin,
So far, fans have only been granted peeks at Dune through the images that were released months ago. Many are eager to get their first look at actual footage from Dune, but there have been some conflicting reports. News surfaced last month that the first Dune trailer would be unveiled in August, and Chalamet himself later confirmed the date. However, this changed just yesterday, when new reports hinted the trailer will instead be released online in September. This is certainly a confusing turn of events, but now there's definitive confirmation of when fans can expect the Dune trailer.
Per ComicBook.com, Warner Bros. has confirmed the Dune trailer will debut online on September 9 at 9am PT. Audiences have the opportunity to see it in theaters beforehand, as it will be attached to screenings of fellow WB film Tenet. However, for those not planning to see Christopher Nolan's latest (or those unable to), they can rest assured that it will arrive online fairly soon.
The debut of the Dune trailer will surely provide some much needed excitement for audiences looking forward to future blockbusters, similar to how The Batman trailer did last weekend. Dune's first images received mixed responses from fans, so this trailer could provide an opportunity to assuage any worries people may have. Additionally, it can help pull in viewers who might not be familiar with Dune; they might be intrigued and thus become more likely to check it out when it arrives in theaters.
As of right now, the plan is for Dune to be released in December of this year. As movie theaters are opening up now, and there are a handful of major releases positioned before Dune, Warner Bros. is likely hoping that things will be back to (relative) normal by the end of the year. However, the studio still indicated there's a possibility Dune could end up delayed. Dune's fate will become clearer as December gets closer, but until then, fans will at least get the chance to see some footage in just a few weeks.
