Clare, 39, was announced as Bachelorette just before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Fans applauded the choice of an older woman as Bachelorette, someone who would really be ready for marriage. Clare’s history with The Bachelor franchise is lengthy. She first appeared as a contestant on The Bachelor in 2013, when Juan Pablo Galavis was the lead. She was runner-up on Juan Pablo’s season and made a place for herself in Bachelor history by giving him a royal telling-off after he dumped her. This was met with widespread praise, and Clare became a fan-favorite. However, she then joined the cast of Bachelor In Paradise season one, rather than taking the lead spot in the next Bachelorette season. Clare returned to Mexico the next year for season two of Bachelor In Paradise, but failed to make a connection. She then appeared on The Bachelor Winter Games in 2018. Clare got engaged to fellow castmate Benoit Beauséjour-Savard at The Bachelor Winter Games reunion, but the two called off the engagement shortly after. As Peter Weber’s Bachelor season came to an end earlier this year, Clare was announced as the next Bachelorette.
Just two weeks into filming, Clare has quit The Bachelorette and accepted former football player Dale Moss’ proposal, as reported by Life & Style Magazine. The season is being filmed at La Quinta resort in Palm Springs, California, where the entire cast and crew quarantined for two weeks before filming was allowed to begin. Twelve days later, production has shut down again because Clare decided to quit the show. Dale Moss, a 31-year-old from South Dakota, has apparently stolen Clare’s heart already. She told producers she had “already fallen in love” with Dale and that “she no longer wanted to participate in the show.” After leaving the series, Clare reportedly accepted an engagement from Dale immediately, cementing her long-sought-after happily ever after. Not much has come out about Clare and Dale’s relationship so far, but fans speculate the two were in contact before the show started filming, eliminating the possibility of love at first sight. According to an insider, Dale connected with Clare on being athletic, loving dogs, and being close with family.
Clare's sudden departure from the show left the producers shocked and blindsided. However, they quickly pulled themselves together. It looks like Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise alum Tayshia Adams will be replacing Clare and continuing the show with the current male contestants. Tayshia first appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor and was a front-runner for Bachelorette last year, but lost the title to Hannah Brown. She placed third on The Bachelor behind Hannah Godwin and Cassie Randolph, and then surprised fans by making a connection with John Paul Jones on Bachelor In Paradise last summer. Tayshia won fans over by being smart and steady, but showing her fun-loving side on Bachelor In Paradise. At 29, she is a suitable age for most of Clare’s contestants and knows what she’s looking for in a marriage, since she was previously married and divorced.
Will Clare’s decision to quit the show pay off? Several past Bachelorettes are engaged or married to the person who got their first impression rose, so it could work out for Clare. Then again, is twelve days enough time to fall in love? Only time will tell.
