WWE's Xavier Woods Wants To Host a Show On Revived G4TV

WWE pro wrestler Austin Watson, also known by the ring name of Xavier Woods, has launched an online campaign to earn a hosting spot in the upcoming revival of gaming TV channel G4TV. Woods has enjoyed a prolific wrestling career since his debut in 2005, but has recently been rendered inactive due to an injury to his Achilles' tendon. Outside of the ring he constantly evinces an enthusiastic love of video games, and hosts a YouTube channel called UpUpDownDown where he plays games with other WWE wrestlers and gaming personalities.

G4TV originally launched in 2002 as a paid television network. It was geared toward a young male audience and focused much of its content around video games. The network's initial catalog featured a broad array of programs, including news coverage, cheats and tips, and game reviews. The network ran for about twelve years before it was shut down in 2014. A few days ago, G4's official Twitter account released a teaser trailer suggesting that it was coming back in some form soon.

While information about the program's triumphant return is still scarce, Xavier Woods seems disinclined to let an opportunity like this pass him by. Only a day after the teaser was aired, Woods launched his own video to Twitter advertising himself as a host for the new program. The video plays like an election campaign ad, with Woods delivering an impassioned monologue about his dedication and highlighting certain aspects of his life after his recent injury to further stress his point. The ad can be watched in its entirety below.

While the video was addressed mainly to the people in charge of G4's revival, Woods also urged his fans to vote for him on Twitter using the hashtag Creed4G4. His approach seems to be going well so far; the hashtag quickly started trending in the US, and he has not stopped campaigning on his own Twitter page. A subsequent post highlighted UpUpDownDown, as well as Woods' undergraduate degrees in psychology and philosophy, and his master's degree in child psychology. If nothing else, it's obvious that he's very enthusiastic about the role.

There's still a lot that is unknown about the G4 revival. The network's Twitter account has advertised an AMA on Reddit this Friday to shed more light on the subject, but until then prospective fans of the network are totally in the dark. Woods' campaign has gained a lot of traction online, but it remains to be seen if it's even something that G4 will respond to. The channel resurfacing after almost 6 years is a shock in and of itself, but what's equally surprising is just how mysterious the whole thing is. People like Xavier Woods are clearly thrilled at the mere prospect of G4TV returning, but for everyone else, it just leaves more questions than answers.
