The TV show The Office might be over, but it isn't forgotten. It took a concept introduced in the British original version of the show and transported it to the USA for nine whole seasons.
The show featured a lot of memorable characters; some of them played an important part during its entire run, some appeared only for a limited amount of time but still managed to leave their mark on the story. When the show ended in 2013, many of its heroes moved forward with their lives and led a happy existence...but others had a much less satisfactory ending.
10 Most Satisfying: Dwight Schrute
One of the weirdest characters on the show, Dwight Schrute was also the hardest-working employee of the Scranton branch. He dreamt about leading the branch instead of Michael but his personality made it difficult for many people to get along with him. Dwight remained strange but he became a bit more civil and even befriended Jim, his initial biggest enemy who played many pranks on him. Dwight married Angela in the end and the two started raising their son together on Dwight's beet farm.
9 Least Satisfying: Ryan Howard
Michael saw himself in Ryan for a time, but it's difficult to overlook that Ryan was one of the worst characters of The Office, character-wise. He was lazy, tried to scam people repeatedly (and often succeeded because of his handsome face and persuasive nature), he treated his girlfriend Kelly horribly, and he didn't become better as the show went on — quite the opposite, in fact. Ryan finished his run on the show by abandoning his child and running away with Kelly, which proves that sometimes people simply don't change.
8 Most Satisfying: Karen Filipelli
Karen and Jim were a couple for a time and they seemed to have worked well. There was real chemistry between them, they both had a sense of humor and everything was fine, at least until Jim realized he still loved Pam and broke up with Karen. However, Karen didn't let it stop her, she continued working hard, and eventually married a dermatologist named Dan, and got pregnant. When she met Jim and Pam again, she didn't hold a grudge against them, even though a lesser person would have.
7 Least Satisfying: Deangelo Vickers
Will Ferrell is a great comedic actor so when he joined the cast of The Office, the fans were really excited. Unfortunately for Ferrell's hero, Deangelo Vickers, his life didn't turn out so well.
Deangelo Vickers was one of the Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch temporary bosses, but he suffered a serious injury which sent him into a coma. It was later revealed that he ended up brain dead.
6 Most Satisfying: Phyllis Vance
Something of a mother figure to her co-workers, Phyllis used to be bullied by Angela who always had to control things. But as time went on, Phyllis became more confident and she gave Angela a bit of the same treatment. Phyllis was also one of the first office workers who had a happy relationship — she married Bob Vance and the couple seemed entirely devoted to one another.
5 Least Satisfying: Gabe Lewis
Gabe Lewis wasn't one of the main characters so it's easy to forget how unsatisfying his life turned out, at least as far as the show was concerned. Gabe started working at Dunder Mifflin when Sabre took over, and he dated Erin who worked as a receptionist. But when Erin dumped him, he didn't take it too well and became obnoxious, to put it mildly. If that wasn't enough, he was later fired from Sabre and forced to live on the streets.
4 Most Satisfying: Pam Beesly
Some people weren't so excited when Pam underwent a transformation in the show. In the first season, she was shy and a bit of wallflower, barely spoke to anyone else besides her fiance Roy and her best friend Jim.
But Pam didn't stay that way, she gained more confidence, briefly studied art in New York, and also found the love of her life — Jim — and had two adorable children with him. But what's even more important, when the show ended, Pam was able to easily speak for herself, something she didn't do in the beginning.
3 Least Satisfying: Kelly Kapoor
Kelly Kapoor was the office's "It Girl" and it was difficult to overlook she'd probably thrive much more on a catwalk or in the entertainment or fashion industry. Kelly had a strong sense of humor and she loved drawing attention to herself, but, unfortunately, she also had the worst taste in men when she fell for Ryan. And just when it looked like she learned her lesson, she still fell for Ryan's doubtful charm in the finale.
2 Most Satisfying: Michael Scott
Steve Carell's Michael Scott was the type of boss any sensible person would fear having. Michael started out as a rather unsympathetic character who thought it was funny to fake-fire his employees, but as the show progressed, he grew more sensible. In the end, he found what he was looking for a long time — real love — and established a family, something he always wanted.
1 Least Satisfying: Andy Bernard
Andy had his positive sides but he didn't know what to do with his life, and throughout the series, this didn't change much. He wanted to become the boss of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin but he was terrible at being the boss. And when he left the office to embark on his acting career, he didn't do any better. Plus, his relationship with Angela fell apart which wasn't Andy's fault, true, but it doesn't erase the fact that unlike some of his fellow co-workers, he wasn't able to truly turn his life around, at least not the way he originally planned.
