Newest Pokémon: Twilight Wings Animated Short Is Spooky And Wholesome

The latest episode of Pokémon: Twilight Wings is online now, and the ghost-centric installment manages to tell a tale that’s both spooky and sweet. Episode six of Twilight Wings somewhat surprisingly appeared online less than a month after episode five, after the previous episode was pushed back due to production delays stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pokémon: Twilight Wings is a popular online-only cartoon that’s been running since January 2020. It will be seven parts in total, with the final episode expected to drop some time in early August. Twilight Wings is based on the most recent entries in the Pokémon game series, Pokémon Sword and Shield, featuring locations and characters from the games along with some new faces. So far, each episode has centered around a different major character from Pokémon Sword and Shield.

In the latest episode of Twilight Wings, Ghost-type Gym Leader Allister plays a central role. Episode six calls back to episode one, which starred a boy in the hospital and his friend, Tommy. In episode six, Tommy seeks out the shy Pokémon Master to try to get a ticket to one of Champion Leon’s matches as a way to apologize to John after a fight. Episode six of Twilight Wings clocks in at seven minutes, with most previous episodes hovering around six minutes, making it easy to catch up before the final episode for anyone who hasn’t been following along.

Pokémon has always been a series with a lot of different parts, from spin-off games to TV shows and manga. The current generation has seen an explosion of Pokémon side stories with even more to come. In addition to Twilight Wings, there’s another TV anime series called Pokémon Journeys currently running, which focuses on returning star Ash Ketchum. When it comes to Pokémon video games, there’s even more to take in, with Pokémon Go, Pokémon Masters, Pokémon Let’s Go and the new Pokémon Cafe Mix. Nintendo also recently announced that the series would be adding the Pokémon Unite MOBA and the long-awaited sequel to Pokémon Snap.

Despite its short runtime, Pokémon: Twilight Wings has done a great job at fleshing out Pokémon’s new Galar region, telling the stories of characters from the game and of normal people inhabiting the world. With episode seven expected in August, now is a great time to catch up on the story, which looks like it will conclude with an appearance by Champion Leon.
