Actor Peter Sarsgaard has praised Robert Pattinson's performance in the highly anticipated comic book film The Batman. The film began shooting in early 2020, but had to shut down production due to the coronavirus pandemic. Originally, The Batman was set to be released in June 2o21, but was recently pushed back four months, now making its debut in October 2021. The film will be the next high-profile DC project to hit theaters after Wonder Woman 1984 and James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman will feature several fan-favorite characters from the comics, including Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), The Riddler (Paul Dano), and The Penguin (Colin Farrell). The film's supporting cast also includes Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. After his casting, it was speculated that Sarsgaard could be playing Two-Face, another Batman villain, but those rumors were quickly dispelled when the official cast list for the film was released. However, more attention has been paid to Pattinson, whose performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman is the subject of much curiosity.
In an interview with THR, Sarsgaard discussed his work on The Batman and Pattinson's performance as the titular character. When asked about Pattinson's performance, Sarsgaard stated, "He looks amazing. I have to say, he really, really does." He goes on to say, "The work he was doing was really cool. I really dug his Batman, and I can’t wait to see it [on-screen]."
Fans have been clamoring to learn more about Pattinson's portrayal of the iconic comic book character. However, they have been able to get glimpses of Pattinson's Batsuit and the new Batmobile the character will be using in the film. In terms of his version of Bruce Wayne, it has been revealed the film won't be an origin story for the character, but will take place during his early years as Batman. Not only has Sarsgaard had kind words to say about Pattinson, but former Batman actor Ben Affleck thinks Pattinson will be great in the role as well.
The anticipation for this comic book film has continued to build tremendously, especially since its release is a little over a year away. Of course, fans are wondering how Pattinson will perform in the role and how he will compare to other actors who have donned the cape and cowl. As fans continue to wait for the first footage from the film, Sarsgaard's sentiments about Pattinson's performance should only help build excitement. An actor of Sarsgaard's caliber giving his approval is not a piece of news to take with a grain of salt. If his performance is as good as Sarsgaard says it is, fans should have a lot to look forward to when The Batman hits theaters in October 2021.
